Any recent Airtran flyers?

I wondered how it is now that they're charging for each bag? I was curious if all the carryons slowed up boarding? I'm sure a lot of people (me included) will not be checking bags at $15 a pop especially large families like us which would add up to an additional $90 bill. I didn't know the new policy when I booked or I would have used SWA.

We're flying with AirTran in September, so I don't know whether all of the carry-on luggage is slowing things down.

I can tell you though, that we plan on using a carryon for everyone so that we only have to check one bag per person ($60 each way for our family of 4: $15x4). With an 11 day trip, there's just no way we'll get by on just one bag per person.

which I am lucky it is just me and my DD 10 so it will be $60 for the entire trip.

I'm flying AirTran for the first time next month, but wanted to say that I flew Continental in April(they also have fees for checked bags) and almost everyone, myself included, had the maximum size carryon, I think you'll see it with most of the airlines that charge now.
EYA..forgot to answer the question-I didn't notice it slowing down boarding.

We flew Rochester NY to Orlando in May and I was expecting the worst.

But my airport had a new line for those who checked in online and paid in advance so no delay. Boarding was not a problem, did not see anyone trying to sneak on a carryon plus a personal item that looked more like a second carryon as I expected.

It was a little more of an issue coming home from Orlando, but that's no different than it's always been with families trying to pack souvenirs.

Coming home we used resort bag checkin and paid on the phone by calling BAGS the morning of departure and getting a code to show we paid ahead.
So we went straight to the security screening when we got to Orlando airport.

Easy.
