Any Rebel Xt Owners

I just got the XT my Mom ordered for me. The battery is charging, but I have a question for other XT owners. Should it have a rattle sound? When you move the body around, there is a rattling sound. I'm not sure if it is normal for this model, or if it is something I should be concerned about. There is nothing that I can see loose in the camera. I removed the body cap, and opened the battery compartment and don't see anything. I won't be able to fire it up until the battery is charged, and see if it works properly. Am I worrying over nothing? It was bought from B&H, a grade 10 used. There is a refurb sticker on it. I've never had a problem with refurb anything, so I don't know the best way to proceed. Any advice?

I know on my Nikon D50 there is a slight rattle sound in it. This is some sort of switch that tells the LCD screen which orientation it is in so it displays correctly on the screen. Not sure if the XT has the same things. It sounds like a very small BB.

Pop up the flash and check the metal arms that hold it up. Some are loose and can cause a slight rattling sound but really are not a problem. My D30 and 10D both did this.

Thank you. That was it. I popped the flash, looked at the arms and sure enough they have a little slack in them. They are tight on the screw side, its where they sit on the plastic "shelf" I'll call it. With the flash up, I put my fingers on the hinges, rotated the camera and wala no noise. Thank you Bob


Furgus, yes it does sound like a BB rolling around.

Agreed! I would probably freak out if it started rattling! Should it ever I will calmly check the flash first, then if that is not it proceed to freak out.

Check the lens to make sure it's installed tightly. There should be no in-and-out play. That might be where your rattle is coming from.

Thank you, but the noise was from the flash arms. A lens had not been attached when the noise was discovered.
