Any problem with an older kid ordering from the kids' menu?

My DD14 is small for her age but doesn't look 10. She eats like a bird and her favorite foods are chicken nuggets and PBJ. Any chance they'll give me a hard time if she orders from the kids' menu at a TS restaurant? I know its easy to do at CS but not sure if the server will say anything. I can't see paying twice the price for food she's going to leave sitting on the plate.

I am 17 and sometimes still order off their kids menu. They normally don't have any issues with it.

I would just ask when you order. Some places are very good about it and at some places they strictly enforce it. We have ordered kids meals as adults at many places but I asked at storytellers once when my DS was 13 and you would have thought I was robbing a bank. In fact, the server was so rude 1\2 our party of 14 got up and left. I on the other hand felt too ashamed to even move. Needless to say, that was our last trip to storytellers. We have been back to the park 10 plus times since and never stepped foot back in that restaurant. We found steakhouse 55 because of this so in the end it worked in our favor, and they had no problem with him ordering what he wanted from the kids menu, good luck

Depends on if you are having table service, or a buffet style meal. For the table service, just make the order from the kids menu, normally there is no problem.

If from the buffet, they will ask the ages, and price accordingly. I never can eat my full $$ from a buffet, but my kids sure can (guess it averages out).

My daughter has ordered kid's meals numerous times. Generally they bring her a larger serving, and charge an adult equivalent price. Buffets, you will be charged the price for her age.

As for Storytellers, they charge by age for the buffet. If ordering from the menu, my daughter (age 23, Aspie) ordered off the kids menu for the pizza. Server didn't even blink. She is a picky eater, and we usually have a hard time with dinner in better restaurants.

I know how you feel, my 22 year old aspie, has moved out of the chicken fingers and fries when eating out, to trying different things on the menu. He found taco's and it is his new favourite item on the menu. More adventureous the past couple of years, and this is a great thing.

Just to clarify.....we were asking to order off the menu at storytellers not asking for a child's price on the Buffett, and it was several years ago so hopefully things have changed

Yep, she is doing much better. But it is can be very challenging. A couple years ago, we did the Club 33 Candlelight dinner, which was a set dinner. It was very interesting, and with the help of a Dear Dis Diva, we got her through most of the meal, and she probably ate at least 1/2 if not 2/3 what was offered her.

In the mean time, we let her order form the kids meals.

It's funny how different they can be. My Aspie is 14 and is pretty adventurous when it comes to food (relatively speaking), but has a tough time with loud noises (like cannons and fireworks) and too much sensory input. She is finally doing ok with self-flushing toilets :crazy2:

They discouraged us from this at Blue Bayou, but said they would "make an exception". At Napa Rose it is no problem.

Thanks to all who answered -- we're not planning on doing character meals so that won't be a problem. Hadn't thought about buffets; guess we'll just have to pay the adult price there but that's okay.

We didn't have any issues from TS restaurants when we were there 2 years ago when she was 12, but no one would have thought she wasn't 10 at the time. I think we just won't mention it unless we're asked and will hope for the best.

I'm 29 and I order off the kids menus sometimes if I'm not feeling like a big meal. It's never been a issue.

Carthay Circle is a no go for ordering off the kids menu. If you want a kids dish, they charge you double as an adult...for the same portion.

I was just wondering about this myself, so I was interested to see the responses here. My DD is turning 10 literally just a few days before we arrive at DL. I hope she can order off the kids' menu at a la carte places. She's tiny and wouldn't make a dent in an adult meal, not to mention she'd just prefer the choices on the kids' menu.

I was thinking about doing a World of Color dinner package but I'm not sure I can justify the cost of her as an adult so we may have to skip that. Still debating.:confused3
