I am a Pooh sized parasail wanna be.... but I'm kinda scared to do it! According to what the info says I should be fine weight wise (far under the max. limit)- and I am still in the process of losing some of this "Pooh" on me. SO far I'm down about 50 lbs. total! But, I still have a ways to go. I DO NOT want to look like a dork while trying to do this! Tell me honestly..... will it be ok????? OR is the boat gonna go fast and I'll just skim the water !!!??? I think I'd DIE if that happened!

I parasailed a few yers back when I was heavier than I am now so you can do it...I even went up tandam with my godson Matt....I think the limit was 375.

Just had to share a line from a favorite comedian, who is also Pooh-Sized (I am also Pooh Sized):

Some friends talked me into going parasailing at the beach. They paradragged by butt all over the Atlantic Ocean.:D

The only issue with pooh-sized parasailing would normally be whether you have the physical ability to move quick enough to not get dragged across the water before the parasail gets enough air (i.e. a beach launch). However, my understanding is that the CC parasail is done via a launch platform on the boat. In that case, the sail will pick you straight up off the platform, and they will spool out line (you will be like a human kite!). As long as the boat maintains the proper speed, there will be no issue. Just enjoy and have a blast!

PS: Congrats on the weight loss. I am down 25, still a long way to go, but making progress!

Ah, this I can answer. I'm about 6'1" 330, and I've parasailed recently. It wasn't a problem taking off from a dock/boat in the middle of the bay at South Padre Island. Wasn't a problem. I just went straight up once the rope was tight. I ran a few steps with it, and went up, whoooooppp. I was up at least 100yds, probably higher and was able to take pictures. Landing was no problem either.

I have had the pleasure of para-sailing on Castaway Cay 3 times!! It is an incredible experience. The parasail is stronger than you are-it feels very secure. I didn't feel like I could overpower the gear with my weight (a fear of mine).

You will not look out of place. Enjoy!

Parasailing is $70.00/pp- I guess you're on the bpoat for about 45 minutes- but in the air only for 7-9 minutes. It's expensive, but I don';t think I'll ever have the oppurtunity to do this again- and I'm really wanting to do something that I would not normally do.

Karebear - I'm definately pooh sized and parasailed at CC a couple of years ago. It was something I had always wanted to do. I'm so glad I did it! It is a wonderful experience.

A great tip I learned from this board. Take two disposable cameras. Take one up with you and give the other to someone on the boat to take pictures of you going up and coming down. Enjoy!

Also pooh sized and did this last summer. Was great - although I'm a height chicken and that did freak me out a bit but we had a blast. Another hint for pictures, if you have someone that can go on board and get pics - get them to do that as well. My husband, although he didn't know which boat we were in he took pics of both the people that were up there and it ended up being me in one of the pictures. But they were great pics cause he could get the boat down in the water and the person up in the air in the same pic. From Deck 10 is where he took them.

You will be fine!

At the risk of being insensitive let me quickly share what I overheard last Saturday while departing my parasail boat. I saw the Captain of my boat and the other boat discreetly signalling to each other and voicing concern over a woman in line for the next trip. Their concern was with the fitting of the harness. I would guess she was in the neighborhood of 300. The size of the parachute could probably lift the boat, but the size of the harness leg loops seemed to be their topic of discussion.

That is my fear!!! I would hate for someone especially the crew to laugh or make fun of me. I guess I am too sensitive but if I heard the remark I would let them know that they were JERKS!!!! It is WRONG to make fun of anyone because of size, color, looks, or birth defects.

My husband has lost a lot of weight, but he parasailed when he was pooh-sized a couple of times. No rude comments or remarks...nothing but lots of fun! And even if they make comments, who cares. Rudeness is their problem, not yours.

Id really like to try and be brave and try this too........but Im really worried about how you land?? Do they tell you what to do??

Doesn't sound like they were too "discreet", but I do think they were more concerned about safety, rather than making fun and trying to be rude...just my take on it.

We've parasiled twice at CC and felt VERY safe both times....they do seem to stress what you should and shouldn't do with the leg straps. I'm also assuming that they've "seen it all" and know approx what size thighs will fit the harnesses they have. If they were concerned, I'd write it off to a safety concern. (At least I'd hope so. I think in general, Disney is very good about NOT singling people out whereas a lot of other companies aren't.)

I wasn't there, but that's my hope at least that they wouldn't be making fun of people. I don't think they'd last long if they were. Just a couple complaints and they probably wouldn't be there.

Irodptl- I appreciate you posting your observation. That is the kind of thing I like to be prepared for. Can you tell me if they did let the woman parasail? I'm not so worried about my legs- they're in great shape as I have been training for the Half Marathon at WDW for 6 months now! But- I am a little concerned about my tummy!

karebear1, you will be fine! You will also have a great thrill.

I did my only experience at CC. As already explained, you are "lifted" as a kite off the boat and landing is explained prior. It is a "stand up" landing and they are there assisting immediately so you don't need to worry. As long as you meet the weight requirement, your go for it!

Take cameras on board...I am sorry to say that DH couldn't come along as a passenger only due to space needs. All on board were parasailers. One gentleman had a camera and promised to email me pics, but I've never received them. :( So, the disposable or maybe even disposable waterproof variety for would be a great idea as the others in waiting on the boat are doing nothing spectacular so taking pics of the one doing the deed would be a good idea.

I can't wait to hear of your experience.

Happy sailing!

The strap around the tummy could fit 2 NFL lineman. The woman did get on the boat. She had very large thighs and I think their was question. Also, these are not Disney employees, they are contractors who live on a nearby island. Just to add that though I enjoyed the parasailing it did not make or break my trip. It was about 2 minutes getting to height,2 minutes at height and then 2 minutes descending. I carried a video camera and filmed the entire flight!
