We had a great experience at WH and would like to stay at a similar place near UOA next time around. Most importantly, want to make sure it is in a safe neighborhood.
Any suggestions?

Thanks!:cool1:

We're actually staying at WH and driving to US. I think it's 30 minutes, but WH sounded so perfect and we aren't going to US everyday, so we have the beautiful house and pool to relax around. Also, from what I've seen the main road into WH has so many restaurants and stores the convenience will be great.

WH is perfect but my DH always likes to try new places and he thinks it's too far from UOA but if there is no other place similar enough I might be able to convince him plus we might end up doing a day or 2 at disney....not sure yet since this vaca is for April 2012.

If you are looking for a condo or townhome, Vista Cay Resort is located on Universal Boulevard and is a short term rental resort each unit individually owned by private owners and built by the same builder as Windsor Hills. It also has a 10,000 sq. ft. Clubhouse with loads of amenities and a great pool. You can find individually owned units on www.homeaway.com and www.vrbo.com, look in the Orlando area. It is the only short-term rental property that is not a condo hotel in Orange County. It is centrally located to all the attractions and a great resort! If you look in the history on here, there have been other posts about it.

Thanks Sandy,
I have heard that name before...I will definetly take a look at it. It sounds good. We are also thinking of staying on-site at UIOA for at least a couple of nights just to get the fast passes. Since this trip is more than a year away, we have a little time to figure it all out.

Vista Cay is newer, nicer & more resort like than WH. And of course MUCH closer to Universal. In fact overall a better location than out on 192 is IMO. Far more things close by than the often busy and spread out 192 corridor offers.

Okay we are very interested in Vista Cay but DH is insisting on a place that has a splash pool like some of the units at WH. Is there anything like that around Universal? Do any of the units at Vista Cay have the splash pools? (just asking...:flower3:)

No splash pools--the townhomes there are larger than the townhomes at Windsor Hills and more upscale, they have a small garage. They are 3 story models, 3 bedroom, 3-1/2 bathrooms in most. Some have 2 living areas instead of the 3 bedrooms, but most have utilized as third bedroom.

Vista Cay is the only short term rental community ever allowed in Orange County to date, other than the condo hotels. There really are no housing communities near Universal.

We went right up I-4 to Universal from Windsor Hills, exit 75, and it was a straight shot, only took us 20 minutes at best. However, with traffic could take you longer.

We stay at both Vista Cay and Windsor Hills frequently. Definitely, Vista Cay is more convenient for Universal and for groceries, restaurants, stores, etc. Windsor is most convenient for Disney and has more housing choices and of course, the splash pools in the townhomes.

There is some give and take! Good luck in your deciding. They are both wonderful resorts.

Thank you Sandy, I was hoping there might be some other magical place that was not mentioned yet! In any event, we will see what happens...its kind of far off right now so we're not ready to make a decision yet.
Do any of you recommend Homeaway for rentals? My dad rented a local place here in NE through Homeaway and it worked out well.
Thanks

We used homeaway for a rental in the Bradenton area last Feb and it went smoothly. I'd rent through them again.

When I am looking for a rental, I always go on www.homeaway.com and www.vrbo.com. They are both owned by Home Away and are great sites, user friendly, and provide lots of information.

Have fun in your search! There are a lot great places out there, that's for sure!
