I am so excited!!! We booked the cruise and universal orlando package for this coming september. We booked 4 nights at the doubletree hotel and a 4 night cruise for much cheaper than what i would pay for a week at disney in a value resort. i plan on using the i-trolley to get to different restaurants, shopping, and sea world.

has anyone done the cruise and universal? anyone stay at the doubletree by universal? reviews and photos would be appreciated.

I havent stayed at the DoubleTree before, but my friend did several years ago. She really liked it a lot. She said the rooms were very spacious and clean.

thank you for your input. i looked it up on you tube. it seems like a decent hotel. booking there we saved $600 over the other onsite hotels. we just need a room to sleep and shower and it looks like we will be comfortable there. the room beat a room at the disney values. it has 2 queen beds and is about the size of a room at wilderness lodge or animal kingdom lodge. im looking forward to staying here and will post a review when i get back. :cool1:

Yes you save a lot but I still think the onsite hotels are the way to go. If you can swing the extra $600...stay onsite!

Here are some from 2008 of a standard room with 2 queen beds

Your welcome and The Doubletree is nice and like I said we haven't been since 2008 and depending on our budget this year we may be going there

It looks really nice.
Does it have a contenintal breakfast?

And is it close enough to walk?

from the research i've done, they do not offer a free continental breakfast. the breakfast buffet at the hotel seems to be very expensive. there is a full service starbucks on site. not to far from the hotel you can find a ponderosa that serves a breakfast buffet for $3.99 every morning. to get there they have a trasnportation system called i-trolly that can not only get u there, but to wetnwild, seaworld, shopping and a ton of other restaurants.

the hotel is only a few minute walk from universal and they do offer a free shuttle. i think you have to make reservations for the shuttle ahead of time.

hope this helps.

There is also a golden coral and cracker barrel within walkind distance and believe both offer breakfast and both are not expensive :thumbsup2

We spent our last night there in July as we were completely drenched from rain and had already checked out of HRH. It's not a bad hotel at all, as others stated rooms are large and clean. I'd say it would be a bit of a hike to walk to the parks but I saw people doing it if that helps.

this will be our first time at universal. we usually go to disney and have the dining plan included. for people who stayed at the doubletree, how do handle meals inexpensively ? do you recommend the dining plan at universal or do you go to nearby restaurants. suggestions/tips would be appreciated as i am trying to do this trip as cheaply as possible.

The few times we have stayed there we went across the street to TGI Fridays and a little futher down from that was a cracker barrel and up the street is a golden coral and burger king behind that and I think the most expensive meal we had was at TGI Friday and even that was not too bad
There is also a Walgreens up the street where we went and bought snacks and the hotel itself has a shop that sells Pizza Hut pizza thats not too expensive but the star bucks is another story.
