Is there any penalty for missing an ADr? Not that I plan to... just curious. I mean it certainly could happen due to transportation issues. Seems like that would open up spots for walkups. How long do they give the late ADR until they give out your table?

It depends on what kind of ADR you had. If it is one where you had to give your CC they can charge a penality. But pretty much it is just frowned apon.:sad2:

If you do not cancel an adr requiring a cc guarantee within a certain timeframe (24-48 hrs), then you are charged a fee, I believe $10 per person. Otherwise, no penalty. However, if you cannot make a reservation, it's courtesy to call and cancel. Even hours before.

Same with unexpected issues, if transportation bogs you down then it's courtesy to call. I have been in this situation before when the monorail was held for an extended period of time. I called dining and they contacted the restaurant. We came late and it worked out fine.

From what I was told, restaurants normally cancel no-shows after 15 min.

How are people suppose to call dining when they dont have cell phones? Im from Canada and surely wont be calling to cancel when it will probably cost me a ton to cancel.

How can it really be frowned upon??? They hold the table for some time....what..15 min. Then it gets given to a walk up anyway. Whether its cancelled or not?

I most likely wont be missing reservations, unless illness, transportation makes me extremely late or unable to get out of the park...like that will happen(?) BUT I surely won't be calling to cancel. It will be given away.

You can cancel at any Guest Services at the parks or Downtown Disney, at any Disney resort concierge desk, or by calling on your resort room phone.

Most of the "penalty" reservations have cancellation deadlines of 24 to 48 hours anyway. So even calling to cancel at the last minute won't keep you from paying the penalty.

And yes, most of the restaurants will wait for you for about 15 minutes, and if you don't show up you can be either put in the standby line or turned away entirely. I think they mean it's "frowned upon" in that if you miss your reservation you are not likely to get a break on wait time and you may even be told your party can't be seated.

If I know I'm going to miss an ADR, I call just as courtesy so they won't hold the table. Typically 15 min. Like OP you can cancel from any guest services location.

Disney doesn't hold tables, so there isn't any concern about that. An ADR actually means that once you've checked in you will get the next table to open up that will fit your party. If you aren't checked in then you aren't in line for the next table. But there won't be a table sitting empty and waiting for you specifically.

Sorry dint word post correctly, as I know they don't hold tables, but, as courtesy it will take your name off the list and free up table for next guest of that size and possible open up availability for walk up.
