We were in Savannah and did the Paula Deen Tour. We had one of the funniest tour guides, her name was Wendy. She said her Mom was a Disney fan, hence the name from Peter Pan. She just drove us around, gave us facts about Paula, took us where Paula got married, by her first home in Savannah, her first restaurant, etc., and then we had lunch at Bubba's....that is Paula's brother. Sort of the rough, Southern cooking, but fun with the people on the tour, we did have a selected menu. The piece de resistance was that the tour guide would make reservations for you for lunch or dinner at Paula's restaurant, Lady and Sons...

We ate there that night, food was great, fried green tomatoes, crab cakes, collards, shrimp and grits and banana pudding for dessert... We did not do the buffet but ordered from the menu. We did order two pieces of her famous fried chicken to try...mmmmmmmmmm. Paula was on a cruise, but her restaurant was a blast, food incredible (you could hear your arteries closing up ;) :rotfl:) and service was good. I think if I get there again, one of us will do the buffet and one will order from the menu, the best of both worlds.

We love Paula Deen from the Food Network, a success story for sure.

I love love LOVE Paula Deen!! She is my favorite! I have all of her cookbooks (so many delicious recipes).

I have been talking dh into a trip to Savannah just to go to her restaurant! I am so jealous!

I hope I get to meet Paula- so I can tell her how I almost broke my back while trying to make reservations to see her at WDW on my honeymoon! If that ain't a fan, I don't know what is!

She is the best and when you hear her story, she is amazing. She never ceases to bring a smile to my face and my husband is a huge fan.....

Last year my husband was quite ill and had to have chemotherapy and radiation. He would watch her every day and he insists that she helped him get through his illness by making laugh...they say that laughter is the best medicine.

We told the tour guide that story.....she knew our names and when we got off the bus she called my husband by his full name and said to him I will tell your story and make sure Paula hears it.....I am telling you the tour was great, the tour guide, the funniest, and the whole Paula Deen experience incredible.

That's wonderful!!

It's funny because Paula Deen has given me so much inspiration with her story too. I was struggling with depression, and I swear, watching her show and knowing what she has overcome in her life, really helped me too. I realized that I didn't have to have it all figured out "right now." I'm only 24!! (Well, almost 25) Now my dh and I always joke about what I'm going to be when I grow up, and I say "Hey, look at Paula Deen- it took her a while to figure it out but she's doing ok!!" :lmao:

I am glad to hear that Paula helped your dh get better! And I hope she hears that story, I am SURE she will be touched.

I loooooooove Paula. Especially that son of hers. The tall one. Yum!

I ate there on a business trip a few years ago. THE best fried chicken and mac and cheese I've ever had, and as a southerner, I'd had my fair share.

Oh, and did you know there is a place in Savannah called the Mackey House! My best friend got married there. :)

I did not know there was a Mackey House, thanks for sharing that..

When I first started on the Dis, I could not think of a name to save my life so I took my initials MAC and added to k e y M o u s e... singing the song while I did it..

Paula is incredible, an inspiration to those others who may suffer from the illness she had, a true success story....rags to riches...like Cinderella Southern style.

Have you all seen her magazine? I think I found it at Meijer's. I really like the look of her magazine. She is a very intertaining lady.

Hey Y'all!

Now I want to go to Savannah and take that tour!

Go Paula! :cheer2:

I have her first two cookbooks, subscribe to her new magazine, and am using only HER recipes when I prepare Easter dinner this Sunday. :sunny:

Paula is such a fun lady. I remember when her restaurant first opened, it wasn't nearly as popular as it is now! Most "locals" didn't really go downtown that much then, so it was usually tourists that ate there. Once the first cookbook came out though, there were lines around the block! Her brother's restaurant is right down the street from my house, but we've only eaten there once, they've had a lot of problems. A friend of mine worked there for a while and she says she's surprised they've stayed open this long. She thinks Paula is probably bailing him out a lot.....
Glad you all enjoyed our city.....come back soon!

What illness did Paulo overcome? I like watching her show a lot but I wouldn't dare make any of her recipes.....since both my DH & I have high colesterol already!

I did though make a meatloaf last week (with REAL GROUND MEAT ~ not turkey) & I used one of her tips to put your meatloaf on some sliced white bread instead of directly in the baking pan so the bread will soak up the grease! GREAT tip! (Naturally you throw the bread away!)

She is very fun to watch & she makes you feel like you've known her for ever.

*Edited to add ~ my DS forgot to sign out ~ this is Mishetta, I will re-sign in!

I do enjoy watching her show and she has a great personality. I had seen her Chefography show and it was interesting to hear what she had gone through and what she has made herself out to be.
Remember, one stick of butter. YUM. :teeth:

I love Paula Deen!!! I can't wait until I get to go to her restaurant some day. The family knows when I try out a new recipe that is will be Paula's.

When they showed her wedding on TV I was crying it was so beautiful. She deserves every happiness.

Another Paula Deen fan checking in here! I watch at least one of her shows every day on the Food Network.

She is real, she is fun... she is REAL FUN!! :goodvibes

I have used many of her recipes.. butter is good!

Did anybody notice that some of the new shows are shot at different angles, and Paula does not seem as comfortable? I don't know if it is a different director.. but I hope it is not a long term problem.

 Love Paula, Love Michael, Love Rick, Love Jaime..

I hope to visit the Lady and Sons restaurant some day.

He's almost always at the restaurant. We've spoken with him a couple of times.

Somehow, I'm not very surprised to read this. I found Uncle Bubba's to be a disappointment. We've only eaten there once and it was soon after UB's opened so I thought maybe they were still working out the kinks but I guess it's more than that.

We love Paula Deen at my house. When we went to WDW this past Jan we were going to stop in Savanna and eat at her resturant but we ran out of time. Maybe next summer. Would love to know all the info about the tour. How did you sign up for it?

She has become the new "freebie" with the men over 50!! Lots of the guys I work with, plus my uncle and my own DH have all said "If I weren't already married, Paula would be my kind of woman!" We have been fans for several years. I had dinner with a guy who has worked with her and he said what you see on TV is what you get in real life! Thats always nice to hear!
