Hello

Just wanted to ask, am I alone in being terrified of flying? :scared1:

I have just booked in for some therapy sessions (EMDR?) and they reckon it will take about 4 sessions.

Has anyone tried this? Or anything else?

Valium doesn't really work for me - phobia is too intense!

I used to be terrible althouh have got better since dd was born as i dont want to pass it on! I also found a booko by allen carr that has calmed me a little. Good luck with the course tho and hope it helps :thumbsup2

No you are not alone!! :scared1: I too am totally petrified of flying, have a massive phobia. Its the only thing in life I am absolutely terrified of. I do take valium (enough to put out a small horse lol!) but I have really tried hard in front of my kids to show no fear and concentrating on that does help slightly, as I really don't want them to be scared. I have booked our first dream family holiday to Florida for next year and already I panic about the flight! On the flip side however I don't want it to stop me from going places with my family. really wish I could get to a point where it didn't bother me but I don't think I will ever manage that.

i hate flying with a passion!
What helped me was a paul mckenna thing about pressure tapping and rescue remedy spray.

No, you're definitely not alone! i'm already wondering how I am going to get on the plane next year

I'm interested to know more about this and what they do :)

Thankfully I have no fears, but my Brother used to be terrified of flying, If I remember correctly he started with this course a few years ago, http://www.flyingwithoutfear.info/
This year he qualified for his private pilots license so you can overcome it.

as some people on here already know i too had a huge fear of flying - it got to the point that early on this year i nearly cancelled my holiday i am not scared of take off or landing its the turbulence that scares me the most :scared1:

i trawled previous posts on here seeing if people that went when i went had bad flights the year before and was obsessive about it

i went to the dr and he prescribed a small dose of diazepam i took rescue remedy spray and a couple of stugeron and found myself to be very chilled out during the flight (to the point i whooped and raised my arms in the air as we took off !)
i wasnt zonked out but a lot calmer and even when we had to put our seatbelt signs on i adopted the attitude of oh well here we go !!

i was more apprehensive on the way home probably because i ahdnt got the holiday to look forward to but still managed it without crying or freaking out

i hope the sessions work well for you - i am seriously thinking of that or a fear of flying course as well as i do not want to miss out on the excitement of the holiday build up :)

GOOD LUCK :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Thanks all :thumbsup2

I have tried the valium/diazepam and rescue remedy option (at the same time as beta blockers!!!) all washed down with a vat of wine.... however it didn't help in the slightest and I am pretty sure that would go against any medical advice going and was a pretty daft thing to do with hindsight!!! Hence me not doing that this time :lmao:

ITA about not wanting to scare the kids as I'm pretty sure that's how I got my fear in the first place (parents fears). I also don't want to be getting smashed in front of the kids just to enable me to get on a plane, that just seems crazy. Anything to avoid that!

Apparently EMDR is some method they use to replace bad memories with good ones (?) it's often used for PTSD and other trauma... apparently my phobia qualifies as being traumatic enough!! Ha :)

As for the fear of flying course... its nice that its run by Virgin as that's who we're flying with. However, my phobia is so bad that I wouldn't want to get on a plane unless I absolutely had to (i.e. for a holiday) so booking a course where there was an ACTUAL PLANE involved would probably terrify me even more!

If only they'd allow you to be knocked out and dragged on the plane by a family member and woken up when it was all over, then I'd be fine!!!! I actually am only just at the stage where I want rid of my phobia - I figured before that if I was too scared to get on a plane, at least I knew I'd never die in a plane crash....

I have the same thoughts as you Flortlebap! The only thing that forced me onto the plane last year was the fact that we were getting married and our friends and family were coming with us. I honestly think if it had been just ourselves going then I would not have flown, but I couldn't do that when everyone had paid all that money to come and celebrate with us.

Agreed!! did you used to watch the A-Team when you were younger?? - they used to drug Mr T like that whenever they needed to fly :)
