Any other Fast/Slow Relay teams for 2012 Marathon?

We are very excited to run the 2012 Marathon Relay. The awesome part is that for most races, my wife would spend most of the time stressing about being able to beat the course sweepers. Our plan is that I will run the 1st half of the marathon in about 2 hours, which will give my wive over 5 hours to finish her half of the marathon.

Are there any other relay teams doing that plan?

I think that a great plan. Traditionally, one would place the faster runner in the anchor position. I think that if you were evenly matched pace wise I would still approach the race that way. However, in the fast/slow case, I think I would place speedy first for a couple reasons. One is to relieve sweeper stress for the slower partner. The other builds on that... as the faster runner, you will get a better corral slot at the start. With the wave starts (assuming Disney does not do something silly like place all relays starters at the very end - unlikely) you will start 20 minutes or so quicker than you partner would have with their expected time. Essentially, you are giving her 5:20+ to get in for a medal.

There is a thought that having the slower runner start onto Bear Island Road in among the 9 minute milers would not be safe. Baloney. As long as the slower runner is following good runner courtesies (i.e. not grouping 3-4 wide with others and holding their line) they are not too much a nuisance.

That's how I would play the race.

That is EXACTLY what my husband and I are doing! My husband is the real runner. I just compete in order to get to WDW .

Both of us are running / walking ( husband / me ) the half on Saturday.
I think I am crazy for trying to walk 13.1 miles two days in a row...but I hope to be just in front of the sweepers the second day :).

We just HAD to do the inaugural Chip and Dale.

We ran the inaugural Disneyland marathon and my DH ran the inaugural Goofy.

I may be renting a wheelchair on Monday

Awesome, Susan! So, you are doing the half both days? I though about doing that, but I want to be at my speediest for when my DW needs me. My DW's favorite characters are Chip and Dale, so realizing that is what put her over the top.

Have you heard anything about how they are getting the 2nd leg runners to the starting line? I think we are leaning towards staying at the Poly so that my wife can get a normal night sleep, then walk out to the start line.

Sounds like she is walking. From the Poly, there is a crosswalk into the MK parking lot and then a short walk to where the Runners will be corralled. You can see the cross walk on the Sat view of this map... The relay exchange is where the x is. The corral will be in the Pluto lot (Open Streets View shows the lot names)

For non Poly folks its a bus along with Runner #1 to the Epcot Staging area. Runner 2 will then head out on a bus before the marathon starts, or as soon as it starts to the MK parking lot. Buses will need to clear out of the Epcot parking lot before the beginning of the race.

Yes, my husband and I are doing the half and the relay. DH does the Goofy every other year and was actually looking forward to sleeping in on Sunday!!! Well....I changed that:rotfl2:

We are staying at BCV so I guess I will be getting up at "crackle dawn" with Tim and getting on the bus. :sad2:

I have always enjoyed cheering the marathoners on Sunday right in front of Mousegears. I also handed my husband his Goofy hat there ( and he gave me his stinky sweat band, long sleeve shirts, and gloves... icky) for the finish line.

I usually walk/trot. You never know what the weather will be like that time of year. I think this is my 7th or 9th WDW half and it has not been the same experience twice.

We are running /walking the Race for the Taste in October. It should be HOT.
