I'm a SAHM who watches a few other children in my home. I've decided to start a daycare so we are currently in the process of looking for a home to do that in.

Just wondering if there are any other Disney loving childcare providers out there. It would be nice to share ideas for care or frustrations of the day.

Yes, I'm here!!!!!!!! Not so much a Mom anymore, but a Nana. We got married the year Magic Kingdom opened and went for out first anniversary in 1972. We have been about a dozen times since and have helped introduce all 5 grandchildren to Disney around the age of two. They now range from 4 to 14 and are starting plans for our next trip which hopefully will be in June 2011. I also care for 3 other little ones other than grandchildren.

I'm so glad there is someone else out there!

I left my job last summer and a friend asked me to watch her boys. They were a little older than my DD so I decided to see if I could find other playmates for them. Now I have 6 kids plus DD, but not at the same time. They all come different days & hours. I'm looking for a house I can do daycare in and then will become licensed. I'm doing this to fund my Disney obsession:rotfl:

My husband & I went to WDW on our honeymoon in 2006. Fell in love instantly. He had never been before and I had only been once, when I was 9. We have been been back 4 times since and I'm trying to plan another trip in the fall. I scored a PIN code for 40% off deluxe. Other than that we will not go back until Oct 2011, when we have a family trip plan with DH's family, my mom, and my niece.

I'm a new childcare provider who works in a center. I absolutely LOVE it!!! I watch about 25 three and four year olds. They're a handful but super adorable. We played with bubbles today (biiiig mistake) and I didn't even have all twenty five of them today! Yikes!

OOOhhh! We did bubbles the other day too! Its been beautiful here. We have a community playground but it doesn't have much for my toddlers so I try to take toys for them to play with also. My daughter got a Winnie the Pooh bubble blower for Easter and they all love it. Except they all could not stand that I wouldnt let them hold it or touch it:confused3 lol... too much temptation.

I hate to say it, but occasionally I buy things for DD that I know will be good for our group to play with. Right now she doesn't know any better but I know soon I will have to let her seperate "her" toys from the group toys.

Nice to meet you Tami! How long have you been doing daycare? My aunt did daycare for as long as I can remember and I worked at 2 different daycares in highschool...it almost feels natural to be surrounded by lots of kids now. Nursing and childcare seem like natural transition... you need good bedside manor in both :)

I have been a licensed provider for around 5 years. I loved most when my kiddos where little = home with kids and great pay. Now my kids aren't so little ( 14 & 11). I have 3 little ones home with me during the day, that way I can do homework etc. After school I get the other 4 kids and then head off to nursing school at night.

It hard to think about not having my kids when I graduate; my husband has shown an interest in taking my place when I am working as nurse. That would be great because after having all these kids since they were babies it's going to be hard not to see them everyday!

I am not (and never have been) involved with providing home care, but I would suggest going to www.irs.gov and order the following publications which will probably help a lot.

334 - Tax Guide for Small Business (For Individuals Who Use Schedule C or C-EZ)
535 - Business Expenses
551 - Basis of Assets
552 - Recordkeeping for Individuals
560 - Retirement Plans for Small Business (SEP, SIMPLE and Qualified Plans)
583 - Starting a Business and Keeping Records
587 - Business Use of Your Home
946 - How to Depreciate Property

And also, if the time can be spared and at and minimal cost take a first semester Principles of Accounting course at a local Community College. Not necessarily to keep the books, but to get an understanding of what the business is doing.

Note that most small business fail within the first few years not because the owner did not know the subject but because they did not understand the accounting.

Just curious...how do you all advertise?

I use word of mouth and craigslist. Altho I'm getting really frustrated with craigslist. I seem to get a LOT of responses from people in other countries... :confused3 scams I'm sure:headache:

I use the local Childcare register and advertise in the small local community paper. The best way to get free advertising is to make friends with fellow providers. They will give your name and number out when they don't spots!

I'm not a childcare provider and never have been, but just wanted to say "Thanks" for all those out there that do this valuable job. I worked full-time when my kids were little and was fortunate to find dependable, loving home day-care for my kids. Now it's my DS and his DGF who are needing daycare and I so worry about them finding the right place for their children. It's certainly not a job just anyone can do or do it well so it's nice to know there are wonderful people out there that do it because they enjoy children so much.
