Yeah, I know, call a doctor, don't ask strangers on a message board...

But until then, can anyone answer a question about a potential knee injury? I fell funny when I was skating this morning, and I think I hurt my knee. Right after, I got up, shook it off and was fine. A little sore but continuted on with my lesson. Now, over 12 hours later, it feels just fine when I'm walking, but hurts HORRIBLY when I walk down stairs.

Any clue what this could mean?

I'm kind of in denial that I actually injured myself badly...if it keeps up until Monday, I'll call a doctor, I promise!

Thanks!

Not a doctor here, but it sounds like you might have hyper extended your knee joint. I do this all the time and would describe the pain similar to what you have.

You just may have sprained it really bad. IMHO, I'd wait a few day and see if it goes away.

Start icing your knee NOW and stay off it until Monday. If you have any pain then, go see the doctor. You may have just strained a ligament or you could have torn the ACL. YOur doctor will know how to check it. In the meantime, treat it gently and give it a rest.

well, i walked into a baking rack at work(big metal rack) and my bone got bruised and i ended up with Patilla tendonitis. it's really hard to tell unless you go see a specialist. and don't be surprised if an Ortho specialist doesn't find anything. mine didn't. i had to go to a Sports Injury Specialist to find out what was wrong.

What exactly happened when you fell, did your knee go backwards, sideways, etc. Did you hear a pop, feel anything when you fell? Is it swollen at all? How does it feel if you move it through it's range of motion, bending it? Do you feel anything catch, pop, rub, etc when you do that? Can you put all or most of your weight on the one leg?

If you were skating on it afterwards I DOUBT it is a torn ACL. You would not have had enough stability in the knee to be able to do that. It could be a partial tear. It could also be a partial tear of one of the other ligaments. It could be torn cartilage or a torn meniscus, hyper-extension like someone else said or it could just be a sore knee that hurts the most when you walk down the stairs.

LOL! That's what I'm hoping!

It does feel a little better today. So I'm hoping its nothing major.

I really didn't notice anything out of the ordinary when I fell, no pop or anything...so hopefully its fine.

Thanks!
