We are flying from there on the 5th July and we have never been before,we always go from Glasgow but due to all flights being booked then we chose to leave from Newcastle.A friend of mine has told me to take lots for the kids to do as there is nothing there for them to do,not even a Mcds!!!!Can some-one let me know what it is like please??the kids are going to have to get up at 3.30am to get down there in time for our flight at 10am so they are going to tired and crabbit anyway before we get there!!!

Judith, here's the link to Newcastle Airport. True there's no MacD's but I think I saw a Burger King banner outside the Travel Inn next door when I was there yesterday.

With so much time to kill a ride on the Metro might help amuse the kids. Here's the timetable , though starting at 5.47am might be too late for yers. At least it's only 23 minutes to the city centre if you want to waste the last couple of hours and go get a MacD's.(click on little yellow timetable icon for the full timetable)

Gerry I thought youwere working last night???How much did you drink before you left???;)

Newcastle airport is ok, but it's not the most exciting place in the world though. There is a small kids play area on the 2nd floor near the cafe and the pub. It's a very SMALL play area though, but if you need somewhere for them to let off steam, it's there.

There are a few shops, Boots, WHSmith, etc not a lot else, a cafe, a pub, Costa Coffee and the kids play area before you go through passport control. Once you are through passport control there is not much at all. There is a duty free shop (not very exciting), a really small WHSmith (much smaller than the one outside), and a cafe - I also think there might be an Airtours play area, but I haven't been there with Katie for a while, so I can't really remember. Basically, I would stay on the public side of security for as long as possible - there is more room to run around etc - you can go outside and look at the planes, and generally you don't feel so trapped. Once you go through, there really isn't much.

I have to say we've never missed a McDonalds - we usually get breakfast in the cafe and let Katie play in the play area for a while.

We flew from Newcastle last year & would def. recommend it.

We stayed in the hotel directly opposite it - straighta across the car-park. Sorry can't remember it's name. We paid approx £75 for a room that slept all 5 of us & 15 days parking.

We bought breakfst at the airport, the kids had something cooked , DH & I had croissents(spell???) & coffee. Nothing special but all eatable & not mega expensive.

We liked the airport because it was small & manageable. My kids were too big for the play areas but we travelled with friends who had a 5 & 6 yr old & they enjoyed them. We also liked the fact that we could see them from wherever we sat.

Hpoe this may be of help.

Thanks Sue.Did you park your car at the airport?we had worked out that for the Hotel and car parking it would be approx £109.Could you let me know?that would be great. Thanks

We parked the car in the hotel car-park. I'm sorry but I've just had a quick look & i can'at find any more details.

I'll have another look tomorrow as I'm sure I saved something.

I'm not noted for throwing things away - just ask my DH!!!

Sorry i can't be of more help.

Sue - the hotel you are describing used to be called the Moat House - I have a feeling it has changed hands recently though.

Its a pretty nice hotel- I haven't stayed there since 1979 (we slept there the night before we moved to America - I can still remember it quite clearly, we watched 'Power to the People' on the telly.... but I digress) but I have been to the Moat House lots of times for functions

Okay dokey - I've had a look on holiday extra's and it's called the Britannia. I put in 14 nights in July 2003 and for 1 night accomodation and 15 nights parking it comes up at £79.

There is also a Travel Inn at the airport, but I don't think they do parking deals.

That sounds about it Bev. Many thanks you've saved me turning the house upside down.
