We are scheduled to leave early Monday morning out of Manchester NH.
I am so stressed out about the storm coming in Sunday.
They are already calling it a Nor'easter. I have heard reports of 18 - 24" of snow!! I am so stressed about this.
We booked our trip through SW Vacations as a package.
Wonder if I should call to see if we could hed out here on Saturday??

Oh well just wanted to share. My DH is so laid back and thinks I am stressing too early.......

I can understand your worries! We're flying out of Baltimore this Saturday morning which sounds okay BUT our SW flight originates in Albany. I have been checking four weather sites twice a day since Tuesday. It looks like we have a brief window of cloudy weather in Albany and in Baltimore, depending upon who you listen to, then brief snow flurries, sleet, rain etc. and then rain, sleet, snow on late Saturday into Sunday. I did subscribe my cell phone to SW's message service for our flight departure info and am hoping for "no news is good news"!

This has certainly added an unwanted element of stress to our vacation and yours!!!

So today, I went out, filled up the gas tank in our more comfortable traveling vehicle and am packing a car travel bag. DH says that if they start cancelling flights when we're at BWI we'll just start driving to Florida. UGH! :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: We did it once before but we would lose our check-in day and arrive exhausted and have to attend MVMCP on our "new" arrival night since we couldn't exchange the tickets (next 2 parties are now sold out).

And we can't fly out on an earlier flight because it is has no space for us!

I am saying prayers for all of us trying to travel in the next few days! :santa:

We are driving to Bangor from Fredericton New Brunswick early Monday morning to catch an early morning flight! We are scared :scared1: too! Last time we went near Christmas. We had to plow our way to the airport. Flights were late leaving and we missed our connection in Boston. Had to wait 6 hours for another flight and then our luggage was held up in security at the airport in Orlando becasue it arrived hours before us! Took us forever to get it back. It was mid-night beofre we got to the hotel. It was along day!

Oh my goodness no...I've been in I-95 in a snowstorm, you do not want to do that. Seriously.
Just sit tight at BWI and get on the first available flight.

Thanks for the thoughts but we'll just drive south if we need to since anywhere north of us is the problem. If we were flying from one of the other two local airports we'd probably be fine but their flights are so limited! Weather reports are still indicating a window of flying opportunity for us on Saturday morning so cross your fingers and pray!!!

I've just read that the storm watch has been extended to Minday morning which is when we are to depart Manchester NH. Our problem is we booked as a package with SWA vacations. Our plane tickets are paper tickets. unable to check in online or swap to an earlier flight. Maybe we will head out very very early Sunday morning and get a hotel near the airport. That way at least we will be there so when the flights start up again at least we are there.

Oh goodness I am too consumed with watching the weather. This trip is for our entire family. Actually it was a year ago today we lost my father to cancer. This trip means so much to us (especially my mother) Oh well.... Mother nature will determine when the heck we get out of here! Good luck to anyone traveling in the snow this weekend!

I would call southwest right away and see if they will change your flight for you. In cases of extreme weather conditions airlines will often do this free of charge. maybe you can fly out a day earlier or later, miss the storm and it shouldn't cost you to change. A few years ago we were scheduled on a Friday flight to FL, but a hurricane was coming. We called and flew in on a Thursday nite instead at no extra charge.

Yep. Count me among the worried. We have a 2 hr. drive to the airport in the wee hours of the morning Sunday, and the forecast here is for freezing rain. Now I guess we need to consider heading out tomorrow afternoon and getting a hotel near the airport. I REALLY would preper not doing that, but I don't challenge freezing rain.

Another good, supporting reason to use Magical Express if one is eligible :teeth:

A DME passenger would have immediate (i.e. first 24 hours) needs in a carry-on... and then Magical Express would take responsibility for getting and delivering the luggage.

Anyway, I agree with the 'call Southwest' advice. I just checked JetBlue for my flight tomorrow - and while it doesn't affect me, they ARE allowing passengers scheduled to depart from/arrive in the Northeast on Sunday to change their flights with no penalty.

Decisions are hard to make with a party of 6. :lmao:
Anyway - unable to change our flight due to the paper tickets booked as a package through SWA Vacations. However, they said if we present at the counter at the airport they may fly us out today to avoid the storm. Sounds like a long shot to me. We are 2.25 hours from the airport. Snow is expected to start tonight & continue as snow and freezing rain until Monday morning.
So we are leaving at 2:00 and are going to spend $$$$$$ on 2 hotel rooms for 2 nights at the airport. Oh well.... at least there is an indoor pool for the kids.

Happy Holidays everyone. And safe traveling for anyone in the Northeast this weekend!

Just look at it as starting your vacation early....the kids will just love being in a hotel and swimming....you get to RELAX. Use the time to get ready for the crazy at WDW. We are staying at the Airport Hotel the night before we leave too....in mid Feb (who know what the weather will be), but our flight leaves at 0620....I would rather have a relaxed evening and morning then the loooooonnnnnggggg day with the kids.

Have fun
here is some Pixie dust to help you out.

We are in New Brunswick, Canada. (Fredericton) Three hours from Bangor, Maine. We have a 5:30 am flight on Tuesday morning. Had airport hotel booked for Monday. Now I think I will pay for Sunday as well. The $60 is better then risking our kids lifes! We can swim and go shopping!

Good luck to you all! I dodged a storm going out and coming home, and lost a lot of sleep worrying about it. I hope it all works out for you. (I don't remember ever having to worry about this sort of weather so early in the season before!)

Well here we are 2nd night at hotel in MHT NH. It has been tough trying to entertain the kids for 48 hours in a hotel. Unable to travel out at all due to weather. Although many planes have been taking off and landing here. Kind of scary though. Lots of fine mist then instanly freezes!!!
Scheduled to leave tomorrow at 11:35 I can't wait. The kids are getting bored! They have lost interest in the pool. It is kind of cute to see 6 and 8 year old boys working our on the treadmills though. My mother has gotten sick also and we haven't even left the state. My sister is not into Disney as mush as us Dis'ers so she does not understand why I am even making the post! And I am about ready to kill my husband.

But it is all going to be okay in less than 24 hours once we are at Disney World!!!!!!!!

Any way I hear Mickey Mouse calling my name.....
