Any one stay at St. Simons Island, Ga.??

Has anyone stayed at the Holiday Inn Express on St. Simons Island in Georgia? If so how was the hotel and the area? I just booked one night for our trip home. I thought the kids might like to spend the afternoon on a beach before heading home to Ohio.

I've never stayed on the island, but have gone down to the area to the water park as it is only about a half hour away. It's really nice, but a little expensive. Basically a tourist area like Hilton Head. Lots of little shops and things like that.

My sister lived on the island for a short while. Was only able to make down to see her twice. The last time I was there was 5 years ago.
If I remember the beach area wasn't your typical beach. During high tide the water came right up to the rocks. No place to go on the beach.
During low tide people were out riding bikes and playing in the water.
However the sand was also wet so you couldn't put a blankey down sit and watch the kids play in the water.

My aunt lives on the island. The Holiday Inn is very nice. Lots of little shops and the pier is nice. There is a playground right by the ocean. But due to much erosion over the years SSI doesn't have a very good beach anymore. Jekyll Island next door has a pretty good beach and the water park already mentioned. If you would like any restaurant ideas let me know.

Yeah, there is a place called "Brogans". they have a location down near the Pier and right as you come on the island where all the sailboats are. Then they have another location more in the center part of the island. Good burgers. Also, they have a place called "Larry's Subs" which I just love. Great Greek Salads.
