Any one have any issues with Westjet allowing you to change flights due to covid restrictions ?

We booked a family vacation for 3 generations to leave Jan 6 for 8 days but due to restrictions. We don't feel comfortable going until we all have a booster shot due to covid numbers climbing. Has anyone had any issues with Westjet issuing either credits or changing flights to April. I am unsure if I want to cancel completely or just rebook. I looked on their site and insurance says a one time only rebook for no fee, this is why I'm thinking cancel and rebook. Any suggestions or comments/experiences.
Thanks

Better to cancel then rebook. Then you can cancel again if needed. I’ve done it several times

Thanks I was considering that but so concerned about prices going up but have to play the game I guess. I researched and if you cancel looks like they don't truly give up a credit just a credit to be used up on file? If I understood it correctly and that works for me either way. We usually fly a couple of times a year, hubby and I no kids. But we were trying to do something nice to help sanity of grandkids that have been impacted with no school or friends around due to covid closures.

We have had to cancel multiple times. Agree with other poster who recommended you cancel rather than rebook. We needed a call back to talk to an agent as we used a companion fare and wanted it returned. All worked out fine.

Agree with the cancel and rebook.. The biggest issue I suspect you will have is getting ahold of someone if you cant cancel online

I have seen a button that will let me cancel or rebook my flights. I'm thinking of canceling then trying to call someone about getting my discount that was applied to original flights caused they messed up my previous flights to California.

I very inadvertently accepted a change to our flights for a February cruise. They had been changed for a second time and I didn't look closely enough - the second time they changed it wasn't just a little bit of time, it was a whole day. And a day that would put us there too late to get on the ship. :scared1: When I realized what was what I tried the "change flight" button and it didn't work. For some inexplicable reason, a message popped up saying the flights couldn't be changed or canceled on-line and I'd have to contact a representative. Good luck with that. I signed up for a pre-booked call-back which is supposed to happen tomorrow.

Thanks for all the information being shared in this thread due to flights.

We are still going (yet) in February. I have 59 days until lift off. We will make a decision closer to our date and see what our comfort level and how things are. Too many variables to see how this will all pan out yet.

I just tried to change on the site but Westjet was going to charge me almost $3000 more. I had originally a discount cause they moved a previous flight so I canceled the change. Then had to ask for a callback from Westjet. I will have to find the email with my discount code and make them use it against the new change. So frustrating this all is but wish me luck. Callback call scheduled for Christmas day so hope they are friendly to change.

I’m not sure they will allow you to use a previous discount if you are the one choosing to cancel (or change). I believe you need to pay the difference in fair (it’s different if they cancel your flight).

That's us too - we have a 20 February trip booked to Anaheim. It was originally supposed to be Adventures by Disney but that got cancelled. Flights were bought and paid for, so I booked PPH a la carte and bought the 2nd ParkHopper we needed (I had a Canadian resident ticket already).

I really, really want to go in February if it is at all possible. The travel advisory expires mid-January so I want to see where we are then. And WestJet might end up cancelling the flight anyway. No sense in jumping the gun.

Yes, just so, as I found out the hard way today when I sorted my flights out. Not only that but using a Companion Voucher is only valid on flights that are completely operated by WestJet, not code-shared with Delta, as are a lot of the ones to Florida. It was a real ordeal trying to find something that worked for us; we're now on connecting flights that make for extremely long travel days from Calgary and I ended up having to pay $288.14 more, as well as stay an extra day in Florida on the back end.

By the time we were almost an hour into the call I really didn't even care anymore - all the gobbledygook about flight numbers and discount codes and travel bank credits and WJ dollars and what worked together and what didn't and blah, blah, blah... Just book my flights and get me out of here already. And the icing on the cake was the Representative ever-so-sweetly told me that the schedule changes are all made during the last week of each month, which means that for my February departure, it's possible it could be revised TWICE more between now and then. :faint:

On a positive note - I do recommend using the Book a Call-Back feature. The call came at precisely the promised time and that saved me countless hours on hold. :wave2:

OK so the callback feature worked great. They text me to tell me almost time to have a phone call and told me what info they needed to have to figure out if I was able to change flights. Well turns out that no I wasn't able to change flights to the fates I wanted cause they are past the dates they had put on the discount code. Then she proceeded to tell me that the code expires to be used at end of November so it would not be applied to the new flight. Arghhh so frustrated cause told her it wasn't really my fault when the Canadian government has recommended that we not travel, but didn't seem to care. Said that all she could really do was cancel the trip and rebook it but without discount applied. So frustrating but really nothing I can do about it. I tried to get them to allow me to change dates but will discuss with family as not feeling safe about taking kids to disneyworld with covid going crazy everywhere again. May just wait until April and rebook closer to the date I wanted to go. If I cancel I don't get money back just a credit to be used at a later date lol.
All I can do is wait and see

Yeah you usually have to pay any fare difference when you change flights. Or else people would just book cheaper flights and switch.

OK so we are finally rebooking our flights and hotels. We have waited for months to rebook. But we have still managed to keep it a secret so far from grandsons that live with us. This has been amazing feet of ingenuity for all adults in house. At one point we were literally texting across table questions and answers about flights and hotels. But have one question can we use the Disney springs transportation if we are staying at the Wyndham garden lake Buena Vista hotel? Also I see that they have a shuttle service but is that from airport to hotel? Also how do I book that just? I was thinking about emailing resort after I book. Please help finalize my dream trip with my grandkids. I truly want to be the cool grandma for taking them too Disneyworld.

The buses only go from Disney Springs to the resorts. They don't go to the parks. They used to but haven't for a while now.

Thanks that is what I was afraid of. I will have to figure that out once I get to hotel I guess. We are not renting a car. My husband drives a tractor trailer for a living and vacation deals are he does not drive while on vacation. That way it is a true vacation for him as well. Thanks for the post.

I did find this on the hotel website regarding shuttles Not sure how often they run, but at least you can see they do have a shuttle to get you to and from the parks.

"A scheduled daily shuttle service/transportation to the Walt Disney World® Theme Parks is also available (reservations are required and shuttle schedules are provided at check-in)."
