Any One Had Upgrade After Being Assigned A Room!!!

It looks like we have been assigned our room already as it states a room number on all the resevations letters we have recieved so far. We booked direct with DCL and I was wondering if you are already assigned a room is there a chance you might still be upgraded. I dont mean to sound ungratful but we have cat 6 aft of the ship on deck 6 and I quite like the position of this room.

Has anybody ever had an upgrade even though they have already been assigned a room.

We were upgraded from an assigned cat 11 to a cat 5. We booked w/ dcl. We were a last minute upgrade as I checked online prior to leaving for the airport and we were still in a category 11.

Last year when we cruised on the Wonder we received a phone message while at the Poly that gave us the great news of being upgraded! We went from a cat. 4 to a cat. 3 just one day before boarding. We were told to just cross out the original room number on our luggage tags and write the new one in.
 
We have had complimentary upgrades before ticketing and as late as at the port.

In one case, TA called and said that we'd been offered an upgrade, did we want it.... (of course we said yes). In the other case, it was a pleasant port surprise. If that happens, your luggage is no problems as the porters have a cabin list. THey are actually the ones who told us that we were in a different cabin than the one on the tickets...then the counter clerk confirmed that we'd been upgraded.
 

I have a Cat. 11 and would love an upgrade but I know it's just luck. Can the TA ask DCL for an upgrade? Are there any hints on getting an upgrade or should I just make a wish and consider it a gift if I get an upgrade?
 
We were on the Wonder last September and got upgraded from a cat6 to a cat 4 and we didn't find out about it till we checked in and our luggage had already been taken from us.

We kept waiting and waiting for our luggage but it never showed up like usual at our door.

So we actually had to go to the lifeboat drill, then went to our old cabin and looked...there they were!!!

The attendants were very helpful in getting it to our room very quickly after they found out about the mix up!!
 
We were upgraded the night before the cruise. We went from a cat 8 porthole to a cat 6 veranda! We had been assigned room 6110. So it can happen!
 
we booked very early and had a room assignment from the very start. About three weeks prior to our cruise date, the travel agent called to say that we were upgraded from a cat. 9 to cat. 5. Hope this helps.
 
Many thanks to all who replied, it looks like there still is a possibilty of an upgrade even if you have been assigned a room number.

We also got upgraded even though we had our room numbers from the time we put down our deposit. We originally booked 2 connecting Cat 8's but were upgraded to 2 connecting Cat 4's! Really nice surprise but I don't know what was worse being under the mickey pool (like we were in 2002 on the Wonder room 8550) with the noise or in the very front (8504/8506)with the pitch and roll. It was still a nice gesture and the double balconies were really nice!
