Any Ocean City, NJ experts?

I just love OCNJ, but I have some trivial questions that might need an expert. We're doing a daytrip on Sunday, I think. Do the boardwalk shops close early on Sundays? Logically one would not think so, but one would also not expect a vacation town to be completely dry, so.... mine might be a legit question after all.

Also, has anyone ever used the public shower houses? We want to clean up before walking the boardwalk. Do you rent a locker for the whole day? How does that work?

How is the public parking nowdays?

We never visit a beach for just one day; there are different things to consider when you don't have a room, you know?

I've never used the public showers, so can't answer you about the lockers, etc.

The boardwalk shops do not close early on Sundays (neither does Kohrs Bros or Mack and Mancos! Yum!).

Parking isn't bad, but get there early (I'm sure you will anyway)! When we do day trips we usually park at the lot on 8th street, just b/c it's right in the middle of everything. There are also meter spaces, but they are hard to get and it's just easier to pay the flat rate anyway to be closer to the beach/boardwalk.

Have fun!!!

Thanks Nennie - just the mention of Mack and Mancos got me SO excited. I am so sentimental about OC (childhood memories), but it's been years since we've been. I have a shopping list put together - taffy, of course, and....what is that great caramel corn place?

Now cross your fingers that I can have some good weather!

OC expert here. I don't know anything about the public showers or lockers. If you find public showers I would imagine they are nice as pretty much everything here is clean. The boardwalk doesn't close early. If you have a problem with the shower set up we used to put several large bottles of water in our trunk and leave them in all day. Then when we were ready to leave the water would be warm and we could wash off. Not as good as a shower though. 7th street surf shop has a hose as does the area in front of the music pier.
Not to be missed - Johnson's Popcorn, Fudge Kitchen Fudge, Mack and Manco, Shriver's Salt Water Taffy, Kohr Bros. Custard.

I know there are public showers behind Ritas on the boardwalk (maybe around 13th St??) and there's always people waiting there, so I can only assume they're fine.

Have a great time. I will be there in a few weeks. Can't wait to get my hands on some Schriver's Creamsicle Salt Water Taffy and a slice of Mack & Manco's delicious pizza!! Also anxious to get a milkshake from Kessel's Korner (to me, it's all about the food ;) ).

What is this Kohr Bros. Custard? I see it every time I go down, but I don't want to waste the space in my tummy on an ice cream I won't really like but will end up eating. How is custard different from ice cream?

<sigh!> I can't wait for Mack & Manco's! :yay: I wait all year to have my slices. The quality control was a little off last summer. I was really bummed. :( The cheese wasn't spread around evenly. It was in patches. There were some areas that didn't get any cheese at all. Since only one guy was making the pizza that day, all the pies were like that when I went in. :(

Ike's crabcakes is good, too. I think it's more the choice of sauces they put on the cakes though. :scratchin

Ditto on the Fudge Kitchen Fudge. It's the fudge shop all the way down by 8th St. They always have someone standing out front giving free samples. That's how you know you are at the right fudge shop. The taste of that sample is heavenly and will suck you right into the store. So these people know they aren't losing any profits in handing out samples. :faint:

I haven't used any of the public shower houses, but they always looked clean to me. I can't imagine anything in O.C. wouldn't be. Just make sure you wear your flip flops while showering.

Yum...all this talk of OC food...

Our family favorite is Uncle Bill's pancake house on Asbury and 20th street. Not a convenient place when you're doing a day trip but we love having breakfast there at least 2x on our trip.

Hope you have nice weather this weekend. We're going in early September :cool1:

The boardwalk does close early after Labor Day. I was really disappointed. The weather was still beautiful when I went, but most places closed down at 5pm. (This was on a week day.) Some of my favorite places had already boarded up & closed for the season. :(

No mention of Ward's Bakery on Asbury??????
A travesty! They have the best cherry butter cookies EVER!

OC is the BEST!!!:cool1:Love it!!!
Going for our wks stay on the 25th of
this month and cannot wait!!! Hope you
have a terrific time on your day trip!!!:yay:
