I'm new to the Bay Area and needing to re-learn a lot of what I learned about gardening growing up in MN. Some things that I took for granted don't work out here, and there's all kinds of fun things that DO grow here that I've never even heard of! Part of me wants to go crazy and plant everything that doesn't grow in MN, and part of me is homesick for some old favorites (lilacs, tulips, hyacinths, daffodils, lillies-of-the-valley, crocuses).
Any tips, advice, suggestions, recommended reading, etc.? I've bought the Western Garden handbook (the really big one) but it's a little overwhelming to get started. Oh, and we have 10 rose bushes of all kinds, and this is also new to me. Any advice on how to care for these roses?
