Thank you!
That means nothing on property eh?
Well, I guess I have to decide whether I want to do a char meal solo or not... hmm... decisions decisions...
Storyteller's Cafe at Grand Californian has a non character dinner buffet. The Plaza Inn in the park has a kind of buffet (not counter service, not table service, but set menu items) with no characters for dinner.

Plaza Inn isn't an all you can eat buffet for lunch/dinner. They have a set menu. The buffet is only at breakfast, and that IS a character meal.
If you are looking for an all you can eat buffet w/o characters on-site, I'm pretty sure Storyteller's is your only option. They just changed the buffet offerings up a bit, but you can find a sample menu at allears.net here: http://allears.net/dlr/din/menu/men_std.htm
Storyteller's Cafe is probably the only option you have for a buffet.
On a side note, on my first solo trip to DL, I went to brunch at Goofy's Kitchen by myself and had a pretty good time. Great food and got to see the characters. It was great until the fairy godmother came by and asked me where everyone else was. She was shocked I was by myself and seemed like she felt sorry for me.
I was annoyed at the fairy godmother after that. I'm a big boy who can take a trip to DL whenever he wants!

I didn't have anything but positive responses from CMs when I was on my solo trip. Some were amazed, others were impressed with my hubby for helping to make it possible for me to go, but no one seemed to feel sorry for me. Sorry that the FG did that to you!
