Any news on when magic bands will start up at Disneyland?

I believe it's suppose hit this year, 2022. Is there a better understanding of when? Like Spring?

I'm sure it will depend on how well Genie+ sales are going.

I would assume that the bands will launch whenever Disney needs to convince people to spend more money, so probably pretty soon, seeing how generally unpopular Genie+ is right now.

The ironic thing is that I literally have no use for a Magic Band because they got rid of Maspass. I don't buy Genie+, don't stay on site and mostly mobile order. If they still had annual Maxpass or free Fastpass, I could see a potential benefit of Magic Bands in that I wouldn't have to fiddle around with a phone each time I wanted to use a Fastpass.

If they added photopass to Magic Keys, I may also see a minor benefit to the Magic Bands if I could just tap for attraction photos rather than enter the code. So Disney will have to add annual Genie+ before someone like me would even consider buying a Magic Band.

I agree. Although my son LOVES Magic Bands and he has a DAS, so I suppose he could use it to tap in for return times. He'd like that.

At this point, I would be very surprised if Disney DOESN'T offer Genie+ as an add on for Magic Keys. Now that the holidays are over, Genie+ doesn't seem at ALL popular. Yesterday, Genie+ had instant return times for almost all rides well into the afternoon. And we used DAS at several rides in DCA with nonexistent lines in the LL. Even Radiator Springs Racers, we walked right through the empty line.
