Any News On OCTA Strike?

I'm soooo hoping this gets resolved before I go on Aug. 2. (I'm sure there are MANY in OC that hope it gets resolved yesterday!) Otherwise I'm afraid I'll have to take some expensive taxis to and from Chapman Univ. for my workshop.

Anyone hear anything about it?

Still in negotiations and I heard there is a media blackout on it as well. They are releasing info on the status but pretty much, the info released has been really slim. They are going to negotiate through the weekend which may be a good sign but we'll see by the end of the weekend where that may lead.

I wonder why they would refuse to release all the info that they have to the public? That doesn't seem right to me.

In all honestly, the public doesn't have to know every single detail of the negotiation. The public has no say what both sides will agree upon so limiting info will actually help the negotiations move along quickly. The drivers have also given their union the rights to speak on their behalf so unless the deal is something the union believes is fair, then they'll pass that info along to their members at that time. Plus, too much attention will get too many outside people involved and stall talks. So it seems that both sides want this resolved very quickly. That's a good thing.

Currently the lines in operation are through a contracted bus company. Now that's normal for a bus agency to contract a private company to run certain lines even when there is no strike. I did hear they are retraining managers on the buses so new lines can open up during the strike. Which ones...I'm not sure.

I had read this somewhere, so I went to their website to see if any of the lines still running would work for me. Of course not!

In fact, the lines that are running seem to have no rhyme or reason (although I'm sure they actually DO); they're just here and there, with big gaps that are not covered at all.

Actually considering that the public pays the taxes that allows the bus system to run, we should get a say in it. Bottom line is the union is being greedy, they know it and don't want the public to become to aware of it. I am all for being fair to employees, but they are asking for WAY too much, bottom line is all raises should be performance based, anyway, off topic, bottom line is they have added two more lines that will run, besides that I would expect this to go on for another 6-8 weeks.

With all do respect as a tax payer myself and a former non-union county employee, I don't see any point for the public to get involved with labor negotiations as it will most definitely stall the process and create more bureaucracy. And that's what we really need..more red tape. I've read both sides to the story and frankly agreed with both sides because what was being reported on the news was not the complete picture. And besides, the public's taxes does not fund transportation 100% I do know that for a fact.

Anyway, a media blackout was mutually agreed by both sides in order to get negotiations moving to prevent a long drawn out strike like what happened several years ago with the LA County MTA. As a result, they have reached a tentative agreement and the union is voting on it on Monday. From what I hear it looks like they will agree to it and an increase to bus service will return Tuesday and return to normal by the end of the week.

meh, Union sucks... our Disney Union doesnt do crap for us and now they want to buy a land to settle in... they couldnt even stop Disneyland from outsourcing our CM cafe.

Anybody know if they followed through on this?

Is the strike really settled, or does it look like it's going to drag on longer?
