Sorry if this has been brought up already...

Does anyone have any idea what's actually going on with Spaceship Earth? I've heard every rumor, from no changes at all, to tearing the whole thing down, and everything in between. I realize that there's probably no chance they'll actually take the ball down, but are they replacing the ride? revamping? refurbishing? re-anything? I'm scared to death of what they might be doing to my favorite ride in the world (no pun intended ;))!

Any info greatly appreciated, thanks!

Last rumor I heard was that Microsoft may come on board as the sponsor- but that was quite awhile ago.

Does that mean some MicroSoft features will be incorporated, like ride shutdown every 20 minutes?

I don't know what is gonig on with it. The other day when I was there the signs all over it still says sponsored by AT&T.

Last I heard/read, the Epcot projects (Project Gemini) are on hold again.

The most popular rumor (for whatever that's worth) for SE was something called 'Time Racers', but I never saw anything that really spoke to what it would actually be.

It looks like the latest rumor from WDWmagic is there will be some kind of rollercoaster installed inside. Ooooh, can't wait for that.

Well, if you look at all the new big budget attraction additions to Walt Disney World lately, it would seem that the only thing Disney wants to focus on is thrills. What is the last non-thrill, non-spinner attraction that Disney added to Walt Disney World and how many thrill rides have been added since then? Also, how will a coaster in SE be at all informative to the guest on anything beyond how to barf up lunch? At least with Test Track, there is some learning involved regarding the testing of automobiles, and with Space, there will hopefully be lots to learn about Space travel and possible future space living.

One other thing that will be a HUGE disappointment would be the loss of yet another of the animatronic dark rides the likes of Horizons, World of Motion, and CoP (also, possibly, the original JIYI) which Disney seems to want to get away from. Yes, they do use other animatronics in their attractions, but the animatronics in the previously mentioned attractions were somewhat different from, say, the animatronics in Splash.

Hopefully this does not happen, but with the current direction of adding attractions to WDW, I would not be surprised.
