DH and I were talking about how much fun we used to have at RC. Has anyone heard any talk about what they are going to do with the area? Enquiring minds NEED to know. :teeth:

All I have seen, read or heard is that it is closed for good. What a shame. They should at least open the pool to FW guest. I don't see where that would cost them that much. It would be cheaper than redoing the pitiful pools at FW. Plus they would finally have a pool nice enough to use in the FW section of the vacation DVD. I don't know where the pool is they show in the video but it is NOT at FW

When we were there in november, we asked a cm and they said it had been turned into employee parking. I don't know if this is true or not but if it is how sad.:(

When we were there last week we rode our bikes back to the River Country entrance, and a Recreation CM was coming out of there. We asked him about RC's future, and he said there are no plans to reopen it, that the area is mainly being used for animal programs for children and for the Backyard BBQ. It makes me sad too, because River Country is such a part of FW. :(

Doesn't look like employee parking to me, not yet, anyway. While on the launch to WL 2 weeks ago, I noticed a crane parked there. I took a picture and blew it up and sure enough, it was a crane. Now it may be that it was just parked there because WDW had no place else to put it, or it may be that there are plans in the works - good or bad. Your guess is as good as mine.

Last year we walked to FW from Wilderness lodge following the shoreline. We stumbled on the backstage area of RC. A lot of equipment was stored there as well as many of the CM personal vehicles. I am sure we werent supposed to be in the area, We were just wandering and happened upon it. It was sad to see RC in a state of neglect.

Why do all of the freshly painted road signs have arrows to RC on them? Just something I noticed while there in Oct.

I just said to my DH last week....."If they are planning to keep RC closed....(and it's been closed how long now?).....why haven't they taken down the direction signs to it?"

We noticed alot of white Disney trucks back there. But didn't see peoples doing anything. Maybe it is just for parking.

We're going to be at Trails End on Saturday. There is a server there named Bob. He knew so much abut Disney it was incredible! Hopefully he will be working when we go there. If so I will ask him. If anything is happening he'll be one to know! That is if he's allowed to say anything.
If I find anything out, I'll post it!

That would be great phorsenuf! Have a great time. You lucky dog! ::yes::

We have heard so many rumors over the years, but the sad fact is that every time we go back to FW, it is still closed. Same thing for Discovery Island. I wish I were CEO...move over, Eisner! ;)

Bob??? Is that the guy who says he owns his own construction company in Florida and works at FW just for kicks? If that's the guy I'm thinking of he told us so many stories I couldn't tell where fact ended and fiction began. He said that after he works all day running his company, etc he drives over an hour to FW to be a waiter. As he talked some things just didn't fit. It may or not be Bob I'm thinking of but this guy seemed to know a lot about EVERY subject that came up.

I don't recall him saying anything about a construction company. We went there twice on our trip (got home today) but we didn't see him there. Both days we went it was his day off. We did see alot of River Country signs still up tho! Even my DH commented on them......so maybe there is hope!

When we were at FW over Christmas the RC signs had been removed. Is it possible they were repainting them ?
what would that mean ? you dont fix signs for something that is closed.

I was at the Chicago RV show a coupld of weeks ago and stopped at the FW booth. I asked about RC and their comment was RC was built in the 70's and would now be cost prohibitive to bring back to life. It is the intention of the FW manager to create a themed pool area. They didn't know if that meant re-vamping one of the existing pools or starting from scratch somewhere.

So, it may not be looking good for RC, but let's hope the new and improved FW pool is something worth all this wait! :sunny:
