They keep showing Riverside Cafe commercials on the tv here. Anyone tried that place?

I preferred Squid Lips to Capt Hirams.

Bella Napoli :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 It is on the list they give to you when you check in. http://www.bellanapoli-verobeach.com/

We were unimpressed with Squid Lips. I mean, it was OK...not dying to go back. Not a place that I would say is not to be missed. We went just before sunset & it had a nice view...but we were like the only customers there. Kinda weird. We skipped that Capt Hiram's place & went to Squid Lips instead as a couple of the CM's kinda discouraged it when we asked for honest opinions. They sorta said it was a little overrated and that the kitchen may have some cleanliness issues.:rolleyes1

I can't remember the name of the other place we tried. It was down in Vero...the CM's recommended it. Sort of an old 1960's-70's place with lots of locals... They had lots of sandwiches on the menu & I think we all stuck with simple stuff like steak & cheese's. I think it was also on the list they passed out. It was a name...like maybe "Bobby's Place" or something like that. Ask at the front desk - someone will know it as a good local place. The place was full & I am pretty sure we were the only tourists there.

Yep we have a 15 hour drive ahead of us on Sunday. We will be on the road around 8

And the silver lining is that SOMEONE will likely get their room early. :goodvibes

Be sure to inform the MK staff when you are leaving. Typically, when we are staging our stuff and moving it down to the car, I'll see one of the staff and tell them we expect to be out by....... or "we are out"... every minute helps them.

We really liked The Undertow Cafe in downtown Vero (probably 20 minutes from DVC VB).

This is a Key West ambiance kind of place. When you walk in, you get the impression that it started out as a bar and expanded to table service...and that's probably the way it was. You know you can get a good burger, and you wonder if their buffalo wings are any good.

But when you get the menu, you are pleasantly surprised. Yes, you can get wings (Szechuan Chicken Wings)...but their menu is really quite nice. (Thai Lobster bisque, Marle's Damn Good Jambalaya, Escargo Saute' to start) And, not for nothin', about 60 beers on the beer list.

And the food is GOOD! The service is casual and friendly, but it is excellent. While you're eating, you almost want to pinch yourself and ask, "Am I really eating this...here???"

When we went on a Saturday night, they had live music (blues, 70's, reggae, and a little Jimmy Buffet thrown in) and the local band was really quite good. JB wouuld have loved it!

Undertow is very much a local place. On Saturday night there were 2-3 groups with a dozen or more in the party -- obviously extended family and/or close friends. With that many locals, you know it's good, but it's not exclusionary or snooty -- very friendly place.

I'm actually wishing I could jump in the car and run up there for dinner as I type!

Don't know why I never thought of this, but Jim's review has caused me to think I need to add a "Recommended Restaurants" section to the VB thread. So, I am going to copy and paste Jim's words and do it.

So, please everyone, give some recommendations to post.

We went to Squid Lips. It was pretty good I guess. Of course the weather is rainy and dreary so that kind of took away from the place.. MAYBE!!! LOL It was pretty casual.

It was funny ..an older gentleman came over and talked to Matthew towards the end of our meal. Then we recognized him from the Green Cabin here at Vero. They were there last night when we were there. Matthew was wearing a NY Yankees Derek Jeter jersey and he remembered Matthew I guess. So..... he came over and started talking to Matthew saying "Hey Jeter" :rotfl2: They live here and they go to Vero Beach resort to hear Bernie sing every so often and then on Fridays they go to Squid Lips to hear their trio sing. He said they are the best in FL. However they didn't start until 6 and we finished eating around 5:30...so we just left. Had we gotten there a bit later for dinner we would have stayed. I think we were the only tourists there.....seemed to be mostly locals. It was very very very casual and my kids were a little shell shocked when we drove up. LOL My dd is a CITY girl at heart so she is having a difficult time with Vero.

SO we are hoping for some better weather tomorrow our last day here. :goodvibes

I am not a fan of Squid Lips. Actually we had a hard time finding any decent restaraunts that were not overpriced or way too casual. I suggest driving into Sebastian. If you find a place that looks half decent, go for it. It really is luck of the draw. This was one thing we didn't like about Vero. Dining was a challenge.

Hi Hope!!!! Yeah I am kinda thinking that too about the dining. I mean...if you know the area it might be different. I too feel like it is hard to find places that are good/memorable without driving 30 mins.

The trio at Squid Lips is called "Trilogy" and they were great last Friday night when we were there. We got there around 6pm and the place was packed with locals. We throughly enjoyed their first set last week. I would see them again.
