I am a first timer to WDW and was wondering if anyone ever leaves small gifts for mousekeeping along with the tips? I was going to bring along some little clip on Koala bears and leave them as a aussie souvenier with my tip for the housekeeping so they can clip them onto their cleaning cart. I think they do such a good job in such a limited amount of time, it would be nice to show that they are appreciated. Does this sound silly? Do you think it is ok to leave a small token? Has anyone else done something similar? I would love to know. :earsgirl:

The first time we stayed onsite one of the highlights of our day was coming "home" from the parks and seeing what the "elves" had done (my ds 3 at the time said the dwarves came in our room while we were gone and made the suprises for us.) We had printed out the envelopes for the tips and we got so much more in return, anything you do will be appreciated and I also believe they do an amazing job. I say go for it, kindness is never a bad idea.

Enjoy, Christine

I think that sounds like a wonderful idea :)

Im sure most people would like to know the service they provide is truely apprieciated other than those who simply tip minimum feeling they must.
Or worse : those who dont tip at all.

...make sure you lock EVERYTHING of value into the room safe. Also bring along suitcase locks and lock EVERYTHING that won't fit into your safe into the suitcase. Unfortunately I had a dishonest mousekeeper on my first stay. He stole $450 & my son's Gameboy. I was the FIFTH victim in his ONE MONTH of employment. Pop Century finally fired him after my theft. The sheriff knows all about him and the lock interrogation confirms he was the only one in my room. However, I'm still 'fighting' WDW for reimbursement! It's ok to be nice, but be careful!!!!!!!

You're saying he got into your safe?

I have left snack size baggies with the tip + packs of gum, lifesavers, suckers, etc.

I got stickers on the dollar store that said "Good Job", "Well Done", etc. and put them on the baggies and then wrote mousekeeping on the bag with a sharpie. Taped the baggie to the mirror so they would be sure and see it.

Not as cute as the mousekeeping envelopes, but just a small token to brighten someone's day beside the monetary gift.

We are leaving Saturday for our first trip...I was wondering (call me a newbie :teeth: )
How much to tip? Do you do it everyday or at the end of the stay?Where do you leave it so they know it is theirs and do you only tip mousekeeping or other CM's too??
I just want to make sure I use proper etiquette. Thanks princess:

Tip each day at least $1 per person in the room. You tip each day because Mousekeeping may change from dau to day. You dont want to give all the tips to one person and the first mousekeeper get nothing.

Yeah, he got in the safe. I was dumb and left the key on the table (forgot to stick it in my pocket on the way out). I felt really responsible in the beginning, but as the hotel manager told me NO ONE should touch ANYTHING in your room. Whether it is sitting in plain sight or not. The Gameboy, by the way, was NOT in plain sight. He rummaged through my stuff to find the 'good stuff'.

We are staying at a 2 bedroom villa at OKW through renting of DVC points...Housekeeping will only come once during the week....

What do you suggest we tip for just the one time? My understanding is they change towels and do housekeeping just that one day. We are there 7 days

Do we need to bring trashbags etc and are the dumpsters close to do that kind of thing?

Each building has a closet where you can empty your trash and recyclables if you fill up the containers before or after you get your trash removed and towels replaced on T&T day (day four of your trip with your arrival day as day one). If you stay eight days, you get a full cleaning on day 4 instead of just T&T. They will take your dirty towels, replace them with clean ones and empty the trash. They will not make your bed, vacuum, pick up after you. There is a vacuum in the closet, plus extra trash bags at the bottom of the trash can. We don't tip for T&T, nor full cleaning day since Housekeeping is not a tipped position. However, if there is a special situation, like a sick person and nasty garbage or towels, we might leave something.
