Any more rumors of a California Grill "reboot"?

A few months back, there were various rumors floating around about CG shutting down for an extended period for some sort of significant rehab - details unspecified, of course.

Haven't heard any more about this - were those just a flash-in-the-pan, or are we still hearing about a possible reboot of some sort?

I've heard the same within the last few weeks. Rumor is that it will be "this year" sometime and may open back up as CG and may not. There was a poster who said a server at CG confirmed this, and said CG servers will be placed at other restaurants in the mean time. Haven't really read anything about this elsewhere yet though.

Someone just posted about this on the thread that was moved to the rumors board. This time the info from a server was Jan '13 closure, about 6 months, and the poster didn't get the impression that the staff or theme would be changed significantly, just brought more up-to-date along with the decor.

Interesting! I hadn't heard this and California Grill is on our dining wish list for our Oct. trip. I hope it's not going to be closed at that time, but I guess we'll have to make due if it is.

Our server told us this when we dined there on Christmas night. He told us they had been talking about doing this for several years now, due to a major need to fix the roof of the building. He said they told him that this year would be the year and that Disney had not decided whether they were just going to redecorate and refresh or close CG permanently and open it back up as something completely different. He did say that, given the atmosphere and the view, it would no doubt open back up as a signature.

Major need to fix the roof? I know this sounds completely ignorant, but does this mean it might not be a safe location to go? We have an ADR there in July and just want to make sure it is safe to go...having paranoid visions of a roof collapsing.

Close it permanently?? CG is one of the top 100 independent restaurants in the country! http://www.eatinglv.com/2010/04/the-top-100-independent-restaurants-2010/ (the list is interesting...3 WDW restaurants on the list, and not the ones you might expect)

No way is it closing. I'd have a hard time anything more than redecoration and upgrading the kitchen would happen.

Our server tonight said that this rumor has come around a few times and not actually happened, but it seems that the restaurant will be closing for an extended period of time. The wait staff doesn't know exactly what is going to be done during the closure.
BTW.... we had a wonderful meal tonight, starting with the Spice Kazan Roll and Yoshi's platter. We then moved on to a shared strawberry salad (yum). For entrees I had the bison (sooooooooo good) and hubbs had the pork with polenta, which he really enjoyed. We shared the chocolate dessert while savoring coffee. We watched Wishes from the observation deck (a first for us) which was wonderful!

That list doesn't mean the restaurant won't close. The second restaurant on the list is closed now. Nevertheless, I don't think this rumor will amount to much.

I doubt you have anything to worry about.

Like I said, this is just what our waiter told us and he savent he servers have not heard anything definite. He even said the people in charge do not have all the details yet. This was back in December. He said they were not sure whether it was going to open back up as a new improved CG or if they will change the theme all together.

Sound ignorant? No. Paranoid? Absolutely. Let's not let our imaginations run away with us. A roof needing repair does not in any way, shape or form equate with a building being structurally unsound. Relax. If there was even the slightest possiblility of danger to the public it would be closed immediately.

Just because your roof has a leak doesn't mean the whole place is ready to fall down, KWIM?

Yes, you're absolutely right! Thanks! :)
