Any More Info on the NEW Illuminations Dessert Party??

From Chip and Co: (posted yesterday)

It has just been announced that Disney will be offering a new dessert party at Epcot! Riding on the huge success of The Tomorrowland Dessert Party, The IllumiNations Dessert Party will open for booking on March 12th, with the grand opening on March 15th. Guests will enjoy IllumiNations from World Showcase Plaza while sampling decadent desserts from around the world. International Sparkling wines will also be available in the exclusive and intimate setting to be paired with the desserts.

This is a great way to top off the day at Epcot’s Flower and Garden Festival, or a hot summer day around the World Showcase. As of the writing of this article no end date of the experience has been announced.

Here’s a list of the dessert that will be offered:

Italy – Tiramisú
France – Vanilla Pot de Crème

I think it is quite expensive, especially for the 10-21 year olds. They pay adult price of $49, but can not share in the alcohol part of the event. I know they will eat more that the 3-9 years olds at $29, but there should maybe be three price points. Hopefully these prices are not a portent to huge increases in the MK dessert party, now generally $25 and $13 for 3-9 year olds.

I just saw this on the DIS Updates email. We called and were able to book it for 4 adults for our upcoming end of March trip.

The Wishes dessert party prices are pretty crazy. These prices for the Illuminations dessert party leave "crazy" barely visible in the rear-view mirror. Wow.

Wow. That is crazy expensive. I went back and looked at the prices for Fantasmic!

You can purchase standard dining packages from the following locations:

The Hollywood Brown Derby: $56.99 for adults; $16.99 for children
Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano: $37.99 for adults; $12.99 for children

Just desserts are more expensive for children? I don't know about you but there is a chance I would feed the kid with the sweet tooth dinner.:thumbsup2

There is entirely too many good options to view Illuminations from around the World Showcase and some that even offer a place to sit, unlike this "special dining event".

My daughter is 4 years old. I could buy her every dessert she wants and could fit without possibly puking in the World Showcase and still not spend $29.

For my wife and I....$100, are you kidding? We can almost drink around the world and have a couple desserts for that.

Price it (or similar items) individually to see how much you would have to eat to spend $100:

Italy
Mocha Tiramisu - Mascarpone, Espresso, Savoiardi biscuits, chocolate $11.00

France
Creme Brulee - Vanilla creme brulee served with a Madeleine $8.99
Jaffa Tarts - Jaffa Tarts

UK
Orange Cream-filled Cakes with Chocolate Ganache, Raspberry Sauce, and fresh Oranges $5.99
Mandy's Mess - Pound Cake with Seasonal Fruit $6.49

Morocco
Moroccan Symphony - Assorted Moroccan baklavas $6.99

America
The American Dream - frozen strawberry, vanilla ice cream, and frozen blue raspberry $4.50

Lets add in:
Mexico
Pastel de Queso con Cajeta - cheese cake with caramel sauce $8.00

Norway
Verdens Beste - rum cake with custard and almond meringue topping $3.59
Rullekake - yellow cake layered with fresh raspberry filling and powdered sugar $3.59

France
Grey Goose Citron Lemonade Slush ($9.34)

Italy
Italian Margarita - frozen Limoncello, Grappa & margarita - $10

If my wife and I had two grey goose slushies and two frozen limoncellos and three of those desserts, I am looking at under $70.

Is it the wine that is making this so expensive???? This seems to be almost double what the Deserrt Party costs in MK! You can get an expensive meal at one of Disney's finer restraunts for that price and that includes dessert.

It's the demand that is making it this expensive.

Disney knows if they make some sort of package, and make it "exclusive", people will pay for it. Even if they aren't really getting anything for it.

The meal plan is a perfect example. PLENTY of people participate just so they can pre-pay and not worry about it. Disney knows you will spend more if you do it in bunches rather than with each transaction. It has nothing to do with value or what you are actually getting.

It's not the wine per se, because there's no discounted price for anyone between the ages of 9 and 21. If you can't or don't drink alcohol, you pay the same as those who do. Same thing with the special stuff like Food & Wine Festival events. You can bring someone under 21, but there is no reduction in price because they can't drink the included alcoholic beverages.

I agree it's going to be about the demand.

I decided against booking this based on the price and the "no seating." For $50 I would like a seat, and no kids on shoulders.

True, but it would make sense for them to factor the price of alcohol into setting that ticket price -- even if they don't differentiate between customer types. It has to figure in their profit margin calculations.

Its $30 for kids, that can't drink.

How many 4, 7, or 9 year olds can eat $30 worth of Epcot desserts?

It's $30 for kids 3-9. If you're 10-20, you can't drink either but you pay full price anyway. That's what a lot of the complaints about. But it's no different than the way Disney does anything with alcohol included.

I just don't think that's how pricing an event works, in general, based on my experience. It's cost of delivering, perceived value, and other factors that go into demand (uniqueness of experience, etc.). But cost factors into overall pricing.

It's a separate argument to say we think $30 is too much for a child. That's subjective, of course. And you're not just buying desserts - you're buying "an experience"... that you might not think is worth $30, which is fair! :)

Well, for my 11-year-old it would be $50! He's certainly not drinking! And there's no way he's putting away $50 worth of desserts. Heck, I'm not putting away $50 worth of desserts--although I might give it a good shot! And I don't drink sparkling wines.

HUGE waste of money.....
