Any MISTAKES made on past trips?

We have done the sneaky vacation too! Sometimes you just want to relax and not have to worry about meeting up with people. So sometimes we go places near other people we know and don't say anything, but sometimes we do meet up with them.

Ponchos: We just buy the .99 camping poncho and they tuck in nicely into the waist pack. Once you use them, you just sort of throw them out and use a new one.

OK we've done the sneak too!

We could outfit my DDs' classes in Mickey Mouse ponchos! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

biggest Mistake: Taking DD7 into Honey I shrunk the audience after she freaked out on it at age 4. She goes on EVERYTHING!!! Not afradi of anything...well anything except HISTA. Junped out of her seat HYSTERICALLY when the mice came up. Jumped into DH's lap and we had to leave the theater.

Looking over the railing waiting with DM to get onto It's small world via the wheelchair entrance, looking at all the pennies, and mu BRAND NEW Burberry singlasses fell off my head into the water. Had to get a CM, wait 3 hours and come back! But I got them..pixie dust!!!

deekaypee - great post. You could have written all of that about me. :)

toomanydinos- I too have had great extended family trips. One thing that works for us is to make sure we have some alone time too. This trip is a family trip. We are taking our parents, and it's going to be very different and relaxing compared to trips taken with them & our very young nieces and their parents. And the next trip will have everyone again. We like it that way as much as vacations on our own, we just know to have the right expectations about the kind of trip it will be...

I just remembered my B-I-G-G-E-S-T mistake (I was trying to block it out...)

Not listening to my 3-year-old when she told me she had to go potty. Now.

Thanks to a FastPass system glitch, we had to wait on the regular line for BMTR. We were boarding when she made the announcement. So, we ran for the nearest rest room, but didn't make it. I will simply say that a big mess was made in front of many onlookers, and I had no choice but to clean her and it up right then and there. Embarrassing!

My daughter is 7 now, so we better not have a repeat performance of this added attraction!

.... YIKES!! :scared:

Trip this last March (thank god it was just my wife and I and couple of our friends - no kids).

Standing in line for Splash Mountain. Started to drizzle. We said it will soon pass. No. The sky opened and it downpoured. We were drenched to the bones. We finally gave up on waiting when the wind started to pick up and we started to get chilly. We rushed into the Splash Mountain gift shop.

Wet and cold, we each spent like $100 for shirt, shorts, towel, and socks. Some of us even bought underwear.

I believe the rain was caused by Disney to force us to buy more stuff! :)

And we never got to ride Splash Mountain, but we got wet :)

...kinda gives new meaning to 'Splash' mountain..... :rolleyes1

DH swam at Typhoon Lagoon with the key to our rental car in his swim trunk pocket. Luckily, by some miracle it wasn't swooshed out into the wave pool, and we got back to the WL. However, later on the car wouldn't start and it cost $175 to get a new key and electronic keyfob. We took several pics of DH with his Disney souvenir keyfob....

Re ponchos, I've had great luck with ones I buy at the dollar store for 2/$1. I've even been able to reuse them. My more fashionable DD, horrifed, calls us the "trash bag people," but I don't care. I noticed she didn't care enough to spend her own money (she earns a pretty penny babysitting) this trip to buy a Mickey poncho, so I guess it didn't look THAT bad. :rotfl2:

I'm with ya on that one! Like havin a couple of extra kids along for the trip!

My worst mistake first trip was I didn't stay long enough and tried to do too much. Second trip I stayed longer but didn't stay long enough and tried to do too much. Thrid trip didn't stay long enough, but finally cut down on trying to do too much. Went home Epcot hungry. Now each time I swear I will not do too much.... But I get there and, plan in hand, take off. First two trips also didn't buy enough souvenirs - changed that last trip and am enjoying the fruits of my buying still. This year I am probably not staying long enough 5 nites, but upgraded to deluxe resorts and concierge level. Will buy lots of stuff. Will probably try to do too much, though I have schedule resort time and am bringing a good book....

I read it this afternoon (well I guess it's after midnight so it was yesterday afternoon) and I loved it. It would have been the end for me when DS's GF went for her piercing before the trip! :scared: :faint:

...yeah, 'specially when she has a history of having problems EVERY TIME SHE GETS A PIERCING..... :guilty:

Great thread! I'm so thrilled that I stumbled across the DIS before our last trip (1st trip for the kiddies!) - I got so much great info - it really made our trip so much better than it would have been! :disrocks: Threads like this are a big part of the reason for that!

Our biggest mistake last time was bringing a combination video/still picture camera. We've got some great videos, but not as many still photos as I'd like. So before our next trip I'm buying a new camera. :sunny:

Love this thread, thought of some more:

  • NEVER stay at All Stars during Grad Nights in April IF you want to use the pool! On Thurs - Sat afternoons when we came back to the hotel for a rest/swim the pools were MOBBED! Kids throwing each other in fully clothed. Life guards gone. I Will say we had no problem w/ loud kids at night or early morning as they returned from the parks. They were very good. It was just the MASS of them in the pools that was overwhelming.
  • Don't bring too many snacks from home. They're helpful in lines....but you still want Dole Whips, Mickey Bars, etc!!!!!
  • Not enough extra batteries (or film, memory cards, etc) Some trips, we used the camera a lot, other times, we just wanted to sit back and enjoy ourselves w/out being a slave to the cameras. But it never failed, if we only brought a min. of extras...we'd need more and have to buy them expensively in the park. If we brought a lot....we hardly touched them! Go figure. But better safe than sorry.

...bringing folks who 'just don't get' WDW on my WDW vaca.....

i will NOT allow anyone to insist that a group of 5 or more of us must stay together throughout the parks.

...boy, do I know what THAT's like.....

On one trip not only did I forget to bring diapers, but I also forgot to bring liners for the bottle. You can buy diapers at the baby center but it costs as much as a MYW ticket. We ended up using the plastic bags that they leave for you for the ice buckets as bottle liners and sterlizing them with extremely hot water every night. Boy that was a long trip with a toddler.

At least every trip I forget something even after I do major lists and planning. :rotfl:
