Any MacBook users that can answer a tech question?

I have a love/hate relationship with my MacBook Pro.

Whenever I am scrolling through iPhoto I always seem to get the SPOD (spinning pinwheel of death) and nothing I do can get me out of that mode without rebooting. Is this a glitch with my computer or does this happen often?

Is there a Safari version of ctrl-alt-delete that will get me out of the SPOD mode?

Thanks for any advice. I would go to an Apple store and have them show me what to do but it is over 100 miles away to the closest one.

You could use the force quit option. Go to the little Apple icon in the upper menu and select force quit, then choose the app (iPhoto) that you want to quit.

I've never experienced this problem. You might want to give Apple a call.

I had that problem on my last MacBook pro. I use the icon in the doc. Click and hold on the icon and you'll see the words "Application Not Responding" and then below it click on 'quit". I found that when I uninstalled the entire iPhoto program and reinstalled it, I had better luck with it. Save your photos to an external drive and then reinstall all of them. Not fun to do but it worked.

Good to know that is not the norm for this program!

Yikes. I will try that. Can you just re-download iPhoto from online or do you need discs to do so?

Thanks!

I have a Mac Mini and was getting the wheel in my photo software too. Bought some more memory, DH installed it, and haven't had the problem since.

I had a lot of big pictures on my computer (internet sales stuff). Downsizing them has helped too, I think.

I do have a ton of photos on here. I guess I can move them all to the external hard drive then add a few back and see what happens.

Usually, on Apple programs, you can delete some of the preference files and then restart the application and it fixes it. Go to the Apple site and look in the forums (community) for your answer. By the way, I believe Command+option+ escape will bring up the force quite option.

I'd get the spinny beachball all the time too, and I had LOTS of photos in my iPhoto library. I've moved them to an external drive and that has helped a lot. I'll also need to start a new library, just to make the loading a little easier. I just haven't found a good splitting point for the libraries.
