Hi all. Any low carb folks around? DH and I are trying to get off the sugar!! ...just in time for the holidays.... :headache:

YES!!!! I'll join in. I think I'm at the heaviest I've ever been. :sad2: My goal is to lose 30 lbs by my next Disney trip (May). Started low carb today - so far, so good!

Wow, not a lot of LC here. I've been eating this way for almost two years, lost 30 pounds and have (mostly) kept it off.

I need to recommit and lose another 15 or so. I'm thinking January. :)

Will check back to see if there's any life in this thread!

I've a struggling low carb-er. I think I'm a carb addict, lol.

I had great success with the South Beach diet, the first time I tried it. I lost 28 pounds in 4 months. My entire goal was 34 pounds, so I was VERY close to goal weight. Then summer came, and since then I've fallen off the wagon for the last 5-6 months. I've gained 15 pounds back.

I'm having a really hard time trying to get back on it. It seems that my motivation only lasts 2-3 days, then goes away.

I'm open to new plans, but low carb certaintly seems to be the best for me. South Beach is the only one I've tried. Most of my weight is the lovely "tire" around the middle, which returns when I start eating high carb items again.

In all fairness, I used to work out 4-5 times a week, and now only about twice a week if I'm lucky.

Uugh.

I have about 2.5 months until vacation. I need to get on track.

I'm in. I'm a carb addict too. Lost 50 on low carb a few years ago and did the 1/2 marathon. Planning a Disney trip December of next year and need to start NOW!!! :yay:

For those of you doing low carb, what percentage of your diet would be in carbohydrates? For example, I have been trying to follow a diet that is 30% fats, 20% proteins and 50% carbs. So I am wondering if you are on a low-carb diet, what percentage of your diet would be in carbs? Thanks!

All I can tell you about the carbs - I limit myself to under 30 grams a day! It's hard for the first few weeks, but you get used to it really fast.

I am! :yay:

I have done South Beach on and off for many years. I really do love it as a way of eating healthier in addition to the weight loss. I hate to weigh and measure and count points or calories etc. SB is just so easy for me to follow. I also find it pretty easy to stick to when not eating at home. It does seem like there aren't many of us here on the WISH boards.

I have lost about 50 pounds so far with SB and have about 50 more to go. There is also a South Beach thread here somewhere with some great meal and snack ideas. I will see if I can find it.

:cheer2: Keep eating healthy!! :cheer2:

I am too! Carb creep started on our last F&W trip in October. It's been downhill ever since. Gained 20 lbs over the last 3 months. :scared1: Time to get back on the LC way of life.
Signed up for the 2012 Challenge. Just waiting to be assigned a team.

Go Meat!!

More people, yay! I am reading The Primal Blueprint. As I said, we have been low carbing for a good while, time to take it to the next level. Exercise-wise too. I am one of those who tends to sit for a good long while, and I like the Primal Blueprint plan for shorter, intense exercise.

Just have to work up to it!

DH and I started LC today. We've done it before and we like how we don't feel hungry after a week or two on it. We're doing high protein, we're not worrying about most fats, and we're eating a limited number of healthy carbs that will mostly come from veggies. I sure hope we can stick to it, slowly add in a few more carbs, and make it a way of life.

For anyone looking for Low Carb recipes I love, love, love this site: http://www.kalynskitchen.com/ She is a South Beacher but not all of her recipes are specifically for that diet. But since she does follow SB a lot of her recipes are low carb, particularly the Phase One list.

Anyone else have favorite sites for Low Carb recipes? I am doing our meal planning and shopping list and really need some new inspiration.

Thank you for the link to that site!! I'm trying so hard to get off sugar and processed foods. I am a total sugar/carb addict. I'm on day 3 and it's sooo hard. Having these recipes I'm sure will make my journey much better.

Thanks for the link. Always looking for more inspiration.
I always assume every low carber or SB'er knows about LC Friends. On the off chance you don't, here's a link to their recipe room.

When I started LC a couple of years ago, I bought a dozen or so cookbooks. And cleared my shelves of all my low fat cookbooks! I never use any of them, really.

My usual plan is to buy whatever looks best as far as fresh meat/fish/veggies, then google a recipe that sounds good. Tons of them out there.

I did just buy two new cookbooks though. "All about Roasting" and "All about Braising", both by Molly Stevens. If your diet is going to be mostly meat and veggies, it's a good idea for it to be tasty!

HI Everyone!!

Here are my 2 fav low carb go to meals.

On Sundays DH and I make egg muffins. I found the recipe on te Disboards and it has saved me in the morning!

18 eggs
3 cups of shredded cheddar cheese
1 roll of sausage

crack eggs into a bowl, mix in cooled cooked sausage and cheese

Pour into WELL greased muffin cups, will make 24-28 muffins
Bake on 350 for 25 minutes.

We store them in a ziploc bag. Pop one or two in the microwave for about 1 minute for Bfast! I think 2 of these muffins equal 1 1/2 eggs.

For lunch I eat Market Day Naked Chicken Breasts. They have 3 varieties. My fav is a cordon Bleu. There is also a Broccoli and cheese stuffed one. 3-4 Carbs each!

30 minutes in the oven (I use the toaster oven).

Market Day has saved me. I just type in LOw Carb on the website and it gives me some decent choices.

My most difficult time is snacks. Any great suggestions?

Sugar free jello is one of my fav snacks (can even add a touch of whipped cream, for almost no carbs!)

I also snack on Atkins bars sometimes, cheese slices or hard-boiled eggs. Finding a good snack IS hard.

I just started LC today. This is my first time but I have watched my sister do it and seen how well it worked for her! I am very excited but nervous to get through my first week! Any tips on how to cut those first week cravings? Anything will help! I also am going out to get sugar free jello tomorrow! never thought of that. At least I can have something sweet to cut those cravings!

I know that South Beach has several desserts that are made with Ricotta cheese that help with the need for sweet. I like to have Swiss Miss DIET hot chocolate 25 calories (you have to find the one specifically called Diet) made with skim milk for my evening snack. Gives me a dairy serving for the day, I get chocolate and I find the milk really fill my stomach. You also may be able to have sugar free pudding. Mentioned this on another thread but you can add a tiny amount of sugar free jello mix (the powder) to fat free plain yogurt that your plan allows. You only need a small amount since it is concentrated. I haven't tried it yet but bought some yesterday. I am not a big yogurt fan so I hope it helps-- I have heard that it really helps.

If you start feeling weak and lightheaded then you need more carbs from good sources, specifically beans! I eat Fat Free Refried Beans and Seasoned Black Beans. Puree a can of seasoned black beans (with the liquid) in a blender and heat for instant black bean soup. You can add sour cream, avacado, salsa and cheese. Beans are an excellent source of protein, fiber and good carbs that will fill you up and keep you going. Just remember the beano or GasX if you tend to have "issues" with them. ;)

The other thing to remember is to eat small snacks/meals every few hours. Make them protein rich and that will keep your blood sugar even and prevent those dips that cause you to run to the snack machine. Even if you may not feel hungry at the time you want to eat something before you feel like you are starving. Set a schedule and stick to it. And drink water. Sometimes just a glass of water or other no cal beverage will help fill that void in your stomach that is screaming out for chips and chocolate bars. Drown it!!:rotfl:

One week is only 7 days out of your entire life. You can do ANYTHING for just 7 days :cheer2: Just take it one day at a time, then one week at a time.
