I am scheduled for one in two weeks. I have surffed the web and found out how its done (the least invasive one, thank goodness!), and that I will prob be bleeding/spotting and of course I will be cramping.

But I can't find anyones experiences with it. And I guess I could just use a little encouragement.:scared:

TIA,

I just had one done two weeks ago and to be very honest with you, it was painful for me. The night before, I was given "cytotec" which was supposed to soften and dilate the cervix. Took three Advil one hour before procedure. The doctor told me they had to 'puncture' 10cm into the uterine wall. Well.... the pain and pressure was too much for me, so she had to stop at 6cm. Now mind you, I have had thyroid cancer surgery and open heart surgery and this was the worse pain for me. I just received the call Wednesday and was told there wasn't enough tissue for a good sample... so.... gotta do it again!! I am going Tuesday, but this time they are giving me Valium and Percoset to take before hand. I will let you know how it goes!

I have had one- you might feel a pinch- take ibuprofen/naproxen beforehand or whatever they recommend. If you think you will need valium you can ask for that ahead of time as well. I was ok without. I had the nurse hold my hand. I remember spotting just a bit. Was back to normal activities afterward. Best wishes!

Some people feel a pinch. Others cramp.....a little or a lot. I had to be knocked out. No joke.

Take someone to drive you home because you have no idea how you will react.

I had one done when I was going through infertility treatments. I'm not going to lie to you, it hurt much worse than I thought it would. I thought it was barbaric that they did it with no pain meds. I agree with the previous advice. Take some Motrin and a tranquilizer if you can before hand. Good luck,

I had one done in September. I was pretty nervous about it as my best friend had one done and she said it was painful. I don't deal with pain very well. :( But, I kept telling myself not to get all worked up over it, as it would be over soon, and other people have lots worse problems than me and it must have worked as my blood pressure (which is normally high when I have to go to a doctor) was 120/82. :)

I had to insert a pill the night before, to soften the cervix. And I took 4 Motrin right when I got to the doctor's office. Yes, there was cramping but my doctor started counting backward from 10 as soon as he started so I was concentrating on that, and knew that once he got down to 1 it would be over. :) The cramping stopped as soon as I sat up after he was done. A little spotting but not much of that either.

I will say that if I ever need another one I will not worry about it as I didn't feel it was that bad. Good luck with yours.

I had mine for IVF treatments too. They only made the mistake of not sedating me ONCE. I have vasovagal response and it is triggered by pain. Lightheadedness, nausea, sense of being very hot, hard to speak, fainting. I'm a mess. :rotfl2:

Same thing was needed for egg retrieval. Morphine was not an option. Knocked out was the only way for them to do the work.

Wow, so it will either be nothing much or absolutly HORRIBLE!

GREAT! lol

I was thinking of taking advil and maybe a pain pill, but does the GYN have to know if you are on any pain meds?

She hasn't said anything about valum either...:( Just that I "might" experience some cramping, so you will want to take advil about 30mins - 1 hr before.

I am making my DH go with me, I am such a baby.

Well, it's probably just different for each individual.

And don't think of yourself as a baby for making your DH go with you. Mine went with me too. It was just nice having him there for moral support. :)

Had one done 30 years ago by a male doctor. OMG - my thoughts at the time were "OMG this must be what a coat hanger abortion feels like". I fainted and had to be off work for 3 days. Felt like I was in labor.

Had one about 10 years ago by a female doc - piece of cake. Absolutely nothing. Flu shot would be more painful.

I have had several endometrial biopsies and although they were uncomfortable, and a couple times they were downright painful, I didn't think they were completely horrible. I did take an Aleve about 15 min prior to the procedure, and I went to bed when I got home. Every single time it produced some serious cramping, like bad mentrual cramps or early labor. Still wouldn't call it horrible, though. It's over pretty quick. I never felt that I needed sedation.

This is very comforting to me, thank you, and the bedrest after the biopsy is a good idea!

I don't have any children, so I cant really relate to the early labor pains. But I have had some pretty bad menstral cramps.

Me too! My blood pressure dropped crazy low and I got so hot and puked. Such a pleasant experience! :thumbsup2

It was way more painful than I expected it to be. After I felt well enough to go home, though, I had hardly any cramping and very minimal spotting. The cramps were more like just an unpleasant ache for me. The procedure was the worst part of it.

It is not a pleasant experience but the good thing is the procedure doesn't last that long. At least mine didn't. Good Luck:)

I had one last year. I took prescription strength ibuprofen before hand and honestly it was fine. Quick, pinchy pain. Was fine the next day. Good luck

Had one done this year. I have a high pain tolerance so please take that into consideration.

I took Mortin 1 hr prior. Drove myself to the appt. Felt a pinch during the procedure. Drove myself to work. Had some minor bleeding and cramping.

Now I had an HSG when I was going through infertility treatment. Horrible pain! Wish I had someone to drive me home from that one. My friend said hers was completely painless.

So everyone is different and there is no way to tell which category you'll be in. Good luck!

I had one a few years ago. They did not warn me at any point that it might hurt. It was a pinch and I didn't expect the pain. I was in tears. They ended up giving me a pain shot.

It would have been nice to have been told when I made the appt to take tylenol or something before I got there. But at least I didn't get nervous and dread it since I was completely ignorant about the pain. So there's my silver lining. Sorry for the bad news, but it might really hurt. Oh, and I experienced no cramping afterwards which is unusual because I cramp about half of a month. I'll cramp so bad I'm in bed with the heating pad, but then no period for 10 days. And more cramps. But no endometriosis. I have two uteri and I have always wondered if that's why I cramp more and it's so debilitating.

ETA: Ok, I'm totally ticked off. I have now read everyone's post and all their drs told them to take a pain reliever beforehand. WTH? I had NO idea there would be pain until I felt it. That's just wrong.
