I recieved an interesting call at work today. Someone with a heavy foriegn accent wanted to know if we used backup tapes.
I said we did. He told me he was from a recycling company and wanted to buy my used backup tapes!!! OH YEA like that's going to happen
Do people really fall for that?

Wow. That's insane! Most companies have their tapes on a seven, 14, or 30 day cycle and then reuse them. If they became damaged or unusable they are shipped off to a reputable company like Iron Mountain for destruction.

I've never heard of "selling" them. Yeah, lets just give all our server data to some company who can do whatever with it.

Well, actually, maybe someone could fall for it. Now that I think of it, my son's computer is a server that a company threw in the trash in the office complex I work in (they set it next to the dumpster, I didn't dig through the trash. ), and they did not reformat it.
