Any Idea what this pain could be? *Update Thursday Morning*

I have no idea what you have wrong but the DIS won't fix it - get to the hospital if you are in that much pain!

It could be nothing bad but personally your symptoms would worry the hell out of me and you need to be given some tests as to what is/has caused this.

Sorry if this scares you but my BIL had all sorts of different pains/indigestion/nausea when we went on holiday with him. He held back how much it hurt though. He had this for just over 24 hours and ended up having to have an emergency op as his appendix was fit to burst. The dr. showed my sister his appendix and said he would of been dead within a few hours.

Take care Norah! :D

My mom had lower back pain with her gall stones. I would go get checked out, pain or no pain.

I think an abdominal ultrasound is definitely in order. Wondering if maybe this is a female thing, like an ovarian cyst that is infected or something...hope you feel better soon and find out what is going on.

Girl what exactly are you waiting for? If you have been in pain off and on for the last 24+ hours, then you need to go see a REAL doctor! Not the quacks they hire to hand out bandaids on campus!

You really should drive the 45 minutes to the hospital, near/far/good/bad it doesn't matter. I would be willing to bet money those doctors at that "really bad hospital" you keep talking about are a heck of a lot better than where you went or what you've got on campus!

You may be scared to go to the hospital, I hate them, but if you have been complaining about the pain for this long and it goes away and comes back, don't you want to be safe instead of sorry!

Norah, I too really wish you would go to an ER just to make sure it is not your appendix. I understand that you do not want to drive, and that you don't want to go to the hospital that is close to you. When I was away at college (very small town and school too) I had no choice but to drive quite aways to go to an ER. Please have one of your housemates take you. Yhe worst that can happen is that they tell you there is nothing theycan find. No actually the worst is that it si your appendix and it ruptures. If I could I would drive there myself to take you, so please get checked out again. Obviously you have a lot of DISers who are concerned for your health. Humor us please?

Norah, I was wondering how you were doing. All this talk about ruptured appendices (sp?) is pretty scary. If that happened, I can imagine you could get peritonitis, and then the real pain begins, not to mention it could be fatal! One thing I DO know is that once something like that happens and the really bad symptoms arise, it is often too late to do anything without EXTENSIVE hospitalization and treatment. Have you ever heard the saying, "An ounce of prevention..."? Don't wait until it's nighttime again and you'll be in there all night. Go now; get an ultrasound. I would be VERY surprised if the student health center had an ultrasound.

Remember... it doesn't really matter what they found yesterday since you have new symptoms now. That changes everything. They can give you more answers with the new information, and they will get more information with their better diagnostic equipment.

Please go now so you can get this over with. At the very least, they will tell you that nothing is going to rupture, and you can rest easily (and they can give you pain meds if they rule out the dangerous stuff).

Not only could it be your appendix, but also your ovary. Sometimes you can have a cyst on your ovary and it can twist and your ovary could burst. This happened to a friend and she lost the ovary. Her symptoms were similar to yours. No one wants to go to the doctor, but sometimes you just have to.

Good Luck!

The main doctor at health services believes that it is acid in my GI Tract so I am on acid reducers.

YEAH for a diagnosis :) :)

Ugh, while I was reading your updates I kept thinking it sounded like reflux (acid).... I figured it couldn't be since you're so young  I don't know why I thought that, I have it myself & I'm sort of young myself  Figures doesn't it.... when you mentioned the not being able to lie down & having it affect your breathing.... well that's exactly what it does to me!!! Hopefully the acid reducer will work just great for you, which one did they put you on?

So did the medication take your pain away? Hope so, and hoping you're feeling better. I have reflux and a hiatal hernia, and sometimes my chest pain is really severe, but I never have pain in my lower abdomen related to that, so I would still get a thorough exam from a good Internal Medicine physician the first chance you get. Also, if the pain returns, don't mess around, and get yourself to an ER.:D

Good to hear from you. Are you feeling better yet? If it's acid, eating bland food should help you feel better. I have been brought to tears by my ulcers, unable to stand. Just a little bread and about 30 minutes can bring me back to my regular self. It's strange though that they didn't try to rule that out definitively. When I had my pain, I thought it was my ulcer again. But they ruled that out by having me drink a lidocaine concoction. It deadens the inside of your upper GI tract, so if the pain persists, acid/ulcers is ruled out.

I'm wondering if this is definitive or just another differential (possibility). I hope this is the end of this for you. :D :D

Hi Norah...Cape Cod Pal here! Glad you're doing better! Maybe you'll be able to sleep soundly tonight. ;)

Norah, how are you doing tonight?

Hey Serena
I was telling my mom today about how amazing you have been towards me these past few days and we were both wondering where you lived...We thought Indy but we aren't too sure.

Norah so glad to hear you are feeling beter. Hope the meds help and you stay feeling good!:D
