Heading for Florida on Saturday from CT. I'm hoping for a smooth trip but with I-95 you can never tell. Anyone know of any big construction projects starting on Saturday?

Just make sure you're past Washington DC no later than 9 am or you'll be stuck in Virginia beach traffic until Richmond.

Oh, and DON'T use 495 West/Beltway at any time of day!!! Overnight until 9 am they have most lanes closed for construction. The rest of the time it's just crazy busy.

We're leaving CT next Saturday driving to Disney.

So maybe if we left around 3 a.m. on a Saturday morning we could take the 95 route instead of inland? I'm waffling!! Good thing I have a week to decide.

We are tracking to be past Washington DC at around 2pm so we'll be in the dreaded Fairfax to Fredericksburg section just after that. Are we doomed?

On a Saturday, what time do i want to be traveling this section?

I was planning on avoiding 495, catching hwy 295 (batl/wash pkwy) through washington to I495 west and then back over to I95.

Thanks everyone!
Jeff

Tune to 103.5 they do traffic on the 8's and also give ways around back ups, they recommend rt 1 as a detour below DC

On Saturday July 16th we spent 2+ hours on Route 1 in stop and go traffic to Fredricksburg. It was in the afternoon.

Wow, my car is a stick! And I have been toying with the I81 route.

I hear there is a high occ travel lane located somewhere that they assign to whichever side of the road it is needed. Where is this located?

Thanks

When we drive if we take the car we leave early and use the 95 route, if we pull the camper down we use rt 301 around Balt & DC, I like this way but some folks do not for the traffic lights. I do not think the lights are that bad only heavy in a few spots.

If I had to guess, the dreaded slog from the mixing bowl (Springfield) to Fredericksburg is bad from about 9am to 4ish on summer Saturdays. Not because of construction but due to beach traffic.

I would not follow the 295 route through downtown DC, or 395 or any likewise combo. I would stay on 95 through Maryland and the eastern side of the beltway (which is 95 and 495). The previous poster warned of the western side of the beltway (toward 270 and Tyson's Corner) which has bad road construction.

Route 1 might be a good alternate route if there is a wreck on 95, but IME it is slower the rest of the time, particularly in the 5-10 miles leading up to Fredericksburg, as it seems like many 95 cars have bailed onto US1, and the US1 lights in Fredericksburg are terribly timed.
