Would love to go this fall for our anniversary. Not sure if it will happen..but hoping! I'm checking tripadvisor, but thought maybe some dis members would have good advice. Thanks. :)

We were just there in July. Our Hotel was AWESOME

The Inn at Union Square

It's a boutique hotel, great service, good location and continental breakfast in the morning, and we got a great rate on hotels.com (around $120 a night)

The Embarcadero Hyatt is my favorite. For very sentimental reasons but also because its a great location and property! :thumbsup2

Depends on what you want to spend.
I love love love the Travelodge Golden Gate - its cheap (by SFO standards) in a great neighborhood (Cow Hollow) and has free parking included. No frills but its clean. Its nicely located to reach all attractions via Muni or Cab along with driving if you so desire

In Union Sq. if I want to spend the bucks I like the Handlery.

There is also the W, the Mark Hopkins and the Fairmont along with the Hyatt Regency Embarcadero and a ton more.

there are several discussions on this topic on the N. California board. I don't know how to post the link but if you go back to the main menu of the discussion boards find the N. Cali one - tons of info on SFO.

I was just there 2 weeks ago at my favorite cheap motel! The Walt Disney Family Museum is well worth a visit too

Hmmm, I have stayed at the Fairmont. It's very nice but if you take a car the parking is insanely expensive. In 2007 it was $52/day! I'm going this week but will be staying in Vallejo and taking the ferry to the city, then spending the night on Alcatraz. Don't think those are the accommodations you are looking for. LOL!

What's your budget? That might help with suggestions!:)

Thanks for all the suggestions. I am becoming completely confused on tripadvisor. Hope to spend under $150 a night. There seems to be lots of good reviews, but they mention street noise until early morning!(Handlery was one of those). My DH and I are in our early 60's. Looking for clean, comfortable, safe location. No car, want to be near local transpotation. Thanks again.:)

The Intercontinental Hotel in San Francisco is amazing. It just opened two years ago and the rooms are so nice. You can probably get lower than $150 a night with the friends and family rate.

Union Sq. is noisey - this I remember vividly from my stay at the Handlery - plus add at least $25 a day to park.

Check out the reviews on TA for the Travelodge Golden Gate, they are really good and it would be well within your price range.

Lots of people here also like the Columbus Motor Lodge - it is on Columbus between China Town and the Wharf. It has covered underground parking and we walked by it, it looked decent. Again, clean, safe etc. nothing fancy. Since it is on Columbus it will be noisier also

Hi, mid 50s here. Stayed at the Holiday Inn at Fishermans Wharf 3 yrs ago. Nothing fancy but it was clean and great location. The end of the F line was behind the hotel. End of 1 of the cable car lines about 1-2 blocks away. An added benefit was that a large Walgreens was around the corner. Hotel has 1 sit down restaurant & a Dennys and a bunch of small eateries on a side street next to the hotel. A number of bus lines run pass the hotel along with the cable cars & F line so transportationg is fine. Have fun SF is a great town.

Union Square is centrally located - you can take a bus or cable car to the other areas. with a car it's not so convenient. DH had a conference at the Hilton last March. We stayed across the street at the Serrano Hotel. I was 3 blocks from Union Square - and was on the edge of the "nice" area. I felt perfectly safe as long as I didn't go further away from Union Square. the Serrano is a Kimpton property, the room was small but acceptable. Price was much cheaper than the Hilton. I would stay in this area again.

Well, we can set up to sleep in D block (solitary) but I have no intention of sleeping!! We did it almost 3 years ago with about 30 people. Too many! Though, at one point I was the only one awake. This time, there will only be 12 of us! Soooo much better!:)

Who, what, how? Details please - my DD would LOVE something like this
