I've been to Niagra Falls once with my family when I was little. I would like to take my own family there this Labor Day weekend. I am looking for a nice hotel that is facing the Falls without paying an arm and a leg. Is this possible? If not, what hotel do you recommend that is nearby the Falls? Is Labor Day weekend a good time to go or should we try to go at another time? Thanks for any infos you can give me. Is there anything else to do around that area for our kids 2 and 4? Thanks!!

Labour day weekend will be quite busy. In fact, the falls is always busy until the end of September. with the casino and events always planned for this area, to me it always seems hectic. Most of the hotels that have a view of the falls, will bekinda expensive at this time. Try your CAA for brochures and talk to them about discounted hotels. The big ones are the Sheraton Brock and Foxhead, the Sheraton Fallsview and the Marroit. Im not sure which of the smaller hotels have a good view. try this site and go to hotels/niagara falls.

Hope this helps

O-oh! I'm wondering if this place is going to be packed?! I told my husband that we should start looking for a place to stay cause the hotels might be all booked if we wait until we get there. Thanks for the info! I tried opening your link, but it says "no such document". Would kindly please (if it's not too much to ask) resend the website? Thanks!!

If the link isnt working, just try www.tourismniagara.com or punch in any keywords such as niagara tourism or niagara falls hotel directory etc. Niagara Falls is always busy now, right thru January, but you can certainly have a good time. Dont forget to take a drive to Niagara on the Lake and Queenston Heights. View the Welland Canal etc. There is so much to do in this area besides downtown NF. If you come in later September remember to join in the Grape and Wine festival, with activites throughout my city, St Catharines, and surrounding areas. Wime tours can be fun and kids are alllowed. Anyway have a good time

Thanks maryann!! It sounds like we need to go after Labor Day to get a better rate!! Thanks so much for your help!! :)

You might even consider moving your trip plans to late November when the Winter Festival of Lights starts in NF. You we be treated to a FREE Disney show at Queen Victoria park! There are fireworks and you'll see Mickey FLICK THE SWITCH to turn on all the lights. Lots of Disney fun and magic and IT IS FREE!

The hotels are generally at a very good price. We like staying at the AMERICANA way up Lundy's Lane, no falls view, but it's a very nice resort, great for the kids. Ask for a NEW non-smoking room. They often have deals; stay two nights and get meals included. Their rates are good.

GOOD LUCK! I LOVE NIAGARA FALLS!

Thanks SandraC! I told my husband about the Festival of Lights and having Mickey there, but he said that Nov would be too cold to be by the water! How cold does it get during this Festival of Lights when Mickey is there? I guess my husband that my kids will freeze outside!

Yes, it's cold there at that time of the year, but if you dress warmly it's not so bad. There are usually enough people there to generate lots of heat. I'm hoping to get there this year, and maybe we can get a DIS meet going for one of character meals.

We've done it in unbearable cold and too warm for coats type of weather. Mostly it's very nice as long as you have your winter coat and mitts. Last year was remarkably beautiful with big chuncky snow flakes and warm weather!

I think the best time to go is the end of September. The leaves are beautiful, the grapes and fruits are abundant, wine is flowing. Everything is so nice and the crowds arent as bad. Visit Niagara Falls, its usually still war,. September 29 is the Grape and WIne Festival parade in St Catharines, one of the largest on North America. The Teddy bear picnic in the park, is fun fort he kids. Next day try Niagara on the Lake browse through the shops, go to a production at the Shaw festival, Peter Pan is amazing. Take a tour of winery, kids are welcome. Go shopping at the outlet mall in NF, discount prices on reebok, nike, roots, esprit, etc. If you arrange for the hotel daycare club, you can visit the casino for a couple of hours. Pretend youre in disney and got the Rainforest Cafe or Planet Hollywood. Niagara2, on these boards, maybe able to suggest a nice hotel for you, as that is the business she is in. No matter when you go have fun, when you drive by St Catharines, give me a wave.

Many hotels overlook the Falls from the 6 story Radiison to the brand new Clarion in the miniolta tower - what a view with a full wall of window. to the 40 story Hilton to the oldies but goodies like the Sheraton Foxhead and Brock. Labor Day is peak season, expensive and need to book early. After that many specials to be found!

We were also hoping to do the Disney Winter Festival show (weather permitting drive from Ohio). We have two choices for hotels: Four Points Sheraton on Stanley ave. on Canada side or Four Points Sheraton on Buffalo ave. on american side. Is there much difference? Would there be an advantage to staying on one side in particular? The one on the american side has views of the falls, but I thought it might be easier to get to Disney show, lights, etc. if we stayed on the Canadian side. please help! :)

When will tickets be available for the character meal that weekend?:bounce:

Thanks everyone for posting! Hmmm, going at the the end of Sept sounds nice!! I guess that's when the color of the leaves turn into different autumn colors. I'm thinking about Marriott, it's in a good location but less expensive than the Sheraton. I'll check out the Hilton and the Clarion on the net to see what kind of rate are they running. We decided not to go during Labor Day, we are doing it right after Labor Day for better $$ and less crowd. Maybe next time we will do the Festival of Lights. I just learned bout the Falls Illumination!! I will sure be there at night to check it out !! I hope it's there during the first week of Oct!!

We have decided to hit the Wonderland Park also along with Story Book Garden when we go to Niagara Falls. I've been too Wonderland Park as well, but this was a long time ago and I would like to take my family there too!
