Any GOOD things to say about Coral Reef?

We didn't love it or hate it; like you described, we could all "find" something to eat on the menu so I wasn't too worried, but the entrees just weren't that great. The atmosphere is fantastic (and most of the reason I did go was for the personalized menu and diver sign for our anniversary in January 2008), but the entrees were lacking.

I did like the appetizers though and the desserts were fantastic, so maybe your suggestion of going for dessert/drinks would be a good idea for your family.

We are reading different posts. I've been reading lots of positive reviews of Coral Reef. We ate lunch there in 2007, ate everything they put in front of us and that includes a somewhat picky 5yo. We loved our meal there and would certainly return.

The Land & Sea appetizer is good. That's it.

To the poster who said that they had only been reading good reviews of CR, you just posted on my thread where I blasted CR, so you have read atleast one negative review of the restaurant. :lmao:

Not the same thing. :goodvibes

We've eaten there both of our visits. This is DD's MUST DO restaurant. Anytime I bring up the conversation of our next trip and where she wants to eat, she usually says, wherever you want to eat as long as we go to Coral Reef and Teppan Edo. Those are her two favorites. (I have to admit, I'm pretty fond of them as well. ) Since it has just been Mom and daughter both times, we've been able to sit right beside the tank, and last year I was able to get a diver message for DD that says Mom loves you! It was FANTASTIC! It was our first meal there (lunch on the day of arrival) and DD was still in the "I'm so excited to be in WDW" mode, and not "I don't like anything today because I'm a teenager" mode. :-)

We ate here in June after a long time of not eating here. We had the first seating at lunch and it just happened that it started pouring right when we got to the podium. I asked to be seated by the wall. Which we were. The service was pretty fast and the food was good. I had the Mahi but instead of rice I had it over cheese grits. it was so good!

We ate there August of 08 and LOVED it. It was probably our best meal at all of disney. We ate steak and it was awesome. Twice as good as my over cooked one from Le Cellier which was so disappointing. Our kids love the tank and just the feel of the restaurant was great. We didn't get sick at all and enjoyed it all. I had the wave dessert and it was very good. I would return there in a heartbeat.

I guess the subtitle for this thread could be "different strokes for different folks!"

We've eaten at Coral Reef every trip we've taken to WDW for the last 6 years, with most recent visit being October 2008. I'm sitting here today planning our trip for this August, and once again Coral Reef is on our "must do" list -- in fact, it's DH's choice for lunch on his 50th birthday!

We've never had a bad meal here. We've also never had a bad table nor a poor CM. We live in Massachusetts so we eat a lot of fresh, high quality seafood regularly.

I think the moral of the story is that if the menu looks interesting to you, give it a try. I do hope your experience is as good as all of ours have been.

We liked it here. We had good food good service and a very nice atmosphere here. Would definately go back.

I really enjoyed this restaurant. I had the land and sea appetizer (and enjoyed the fact that it was actually appetizer sized - so often they are wayy too big), the blackened catfish entree which was absolutely amazing, and finished with the Baileys and Jack Daniels mousse. From beginning to end a really nice meal :)

I really enjoy Coral Reef, it was very good.

My own experience is that people can convince themselves of anything including getting sick from a certain restaurant when truth is that most bugs don't kick in for a few days if not a week.

We ate there twice and always enjoyed it. Don't remember what we had the first time but on our last trip I had the mahi mahi (I think!) and it was great. Dh had the crab legs and ate every last morsel. DS6 had some sort of fish as well I think...and DS5 had the pizza. For desert we had the choloclate wave cake and it was delish! I don't think we'll be going back this year but only because we want to try new places.

We have been to Coral Reef 3 times. This is one of DHs most requested restaurants. I like going here too. DH always sticks with the NY Strip Steak and the Chocolate Wave. I had the Blackened Catfish-I didn't like this, too salty. Next I had the Kings Crab Legs-wonderful of course. Last year I had the Grilled Mahi-Mahi. This was the best dinner of the 8 day trip. We will be going back this summer can't wait!

I loved Coral Reef. The steak was awesome! DM loved it so much (she got the Mahi Mahi) that it is the one thing she wants to do most on our May trip.

We've been twice, most recently last summer. The mahi mahi was excellent and so were the desserts. I had some pasta and seafood dish. It was okay. Our service was great (Dawn did a wonderful job) and I love the atomosphere. We were in the highest tier of seating, but have also previously sat in front of the aquarium, which is awesome.

We've only been to Coral Reef once and that was back in August. We did not get sick, but honestly I couldn't tell you one thing good or bad about the food there. The only thing I remember and my kids remember is freezing the whole time we were in the restuarant. It was August and we couldn't wait to get back in the heat! I do think the desert was good.

We just went the first week of Feb, DH and I love CR it is one of our musts each trip down. We have always sat right next to the tank....its a great place!!

Hi
Unfortunately I have only been to the World 3 times: 1989, 2001, and 4/2008.

On both the 2001 and 2008 trip we ate at Coral Reef for lunch. Both times we had our sons with us-- they were teenagers on our most recent trip.

WE LOVE this restaurant. Food is good, service was fine-- we sat closer to the tank on one visit, but we could see it fine both times.

I hope you love it as much as many of us do!

Debi:)

Here's a plus.....

While eating your favorite fish, you can look over and wave hello to it's more fortunate cousin who is still in the aquarium.

;-)

We have eaten there 2 times and it was really good. Going again on our nrxt trip:thumbsup2
