any GOOD experiences with POR?

POR is a very nice resort, our family loved it, twice.

Sure, the buses are an issue at times, and the resort is large (lots of additional walking), but i would go again... we are reserved at CSR right now to try something different, but it sounds like DW will be making me change back to POR.

The boatride to DTD is great, horse-drawn carriage rides, hot tub, large pool, several quiet pools, did i mention the hot tub?!

keep in mind, although most people on these boards seem different, most people in general that post on message boards like this are wanting to vent and complain about something that upset them, so you are likely to find a lot of complaints about something that may worry or concern you, but by posting a question as you have in this thread, you can also find that a lot of people have enjoyed the same thing that there may be a lot of complaints about.

Anyhow, have a great trip.

We stayed there in 2004 and LOVED it. We stayed at the Beach Club in 2006 and are going back to Port Orleans this year (trying French Quarter this time)

The staff at POR was amazing.
One of the gals in the shop remembered our names and used them every time we were in there.
Our Mousekeeper was great. My ds came down with a stomach bug and she was great about leaving us extra towels and sheets. Even brought new bedspreads every day. When we were finally able to take him out of the room, she left the room spotless and arranged his toys for him. She saw me in the 'hall' that day and checked to see how he was feeling.
While my son was sick he wanted rice to eat. They don't serve rice in the food court, and Boatwrights was closed at lunch time. The manager from Boatwrights heard me asking about the chances of getting rice, told me to give her 5 minutes, then she found me waiting in the store where she gave me a huge plate of plain rice for ds along with a bunch of Mickey stickers.

Everyone we encountered seemed genuinely eager to help us, whether it was while ds was sick or during the rest of the stay.

I love the boat to DD. The bus service was fine too, we never waited for more than 5 or 10 minutes.

My favorite part of that trip was my early morning mug run to the food court, followed by a quiet hour or so reading on a bench near the river. I couldnt accomplish that same kind of morning at Beach Club.

Ive definitely decided I am a moderate girl.
All Stars was fun, but didnt seem as inviting as POR. Beach Club beautiful, but nowhere near as cozy as POR.

I'm a total deluxe girl. Truth be told we are a total deluxe family. We stayed at POR Christmas week this past year and honestly, we all enjoyed it. We wouldn't hesitate to do it again. We had zero trouble with the busses. NEver waited more than 10 minutes and most of the time it was less than 5 minutes. Mousekeeping was great. No towel animals or silly stuffed animal arrangements for us but that is all secondary stuff. The room was clean and well maintained...that is what really mattered to me. The CMs were friendly. The grounds are beautiful and the resort has a very peaceful and relaxing feel to it. My kids enjoyed the pool and only commented twice that the waterslide didn't measure up to the BWI slide BUT they had no problem spending a good hour back and forth up and down the slide constantly so it's not like they complained either!

I think you made a good choice! I'm sure we'll be back to POR. :thumbsup

I see that you have gotten alot of posts letting you know that you have made the right decision. I will only be able to add to them. I spent my Honeymoon there when it was called Dixie landings. I have very fond memories of this resort. I believe it is one of the nicest at WDW. Don't miss the breakfast there it's quite good. Hope you enjoy your stay. :thumbsup2

Stayed at POR and POFQ four times now and have never been disapointed. Infact, I'm a little upset that the only mod available for my upcoming trip is CBR.

I will also add to the positive comments. We stayed at POR this December, during POP Warner no less, and loved it. We have stayed multiple times previously and have never had an issue. The only advice I have is if you want to be able to use the main pool, don't go during POP Warner or Cheerleading. It was packed. But they still have quiet pools so we just did that. The resort is beautiful, the food at the food court was really good. Boatwrights was great at breakfast and dinner. I also really liked having the trundle bed for my 6 year old. He and his little sis are olympic sleepers (move all over the place), so putting them together on one bed is not an option. You will have a great time.

We also stayed at POR last April and loved it! We had great experiences with the buses and our room was beautiful. I think that you'll really enjoy your stay there.

Thank you for this post - it reaffirms we made a good choice for this April!

Kxmeeh - which building were you in? It sounds like a great location.

We stayed there in Oct. 07 and Dec. 07....had a wonderful time both trips.

In Oct, we stayed in room 3401 and 3402, Alligator Bayou...Loved it!

In Dec, we stayed in room 2852 and loved that too, even though it was a second floor room!

You made a great choice! :thumbsup2 Have a wonderful trip!

What a great post! You have all made me excited for my 1st trip to POR in March 2008! :)

I just left there 8 days ago and certainly wish I was back, even though itw as marathon weekend!!! DH said it was the best WDW resort of all!!! He ought to know since we've stayed at almost all of them and he said it was way better than BC!! I figure we can stay there twice as long if I stay at POR instead of BC for our next trip!!! :thumbsup2

The food was great, the service was great, the atmosphere was great!!! We loved the whole experience and will certainly be going back!

Just a little funny side note... we decided to take the boat to DTD to eat at RFC and so I could see the treehouses. On the way, we pass HoB and the smell of BBQ was overpowering!!! We walked right by RFC and headed to HoB. It did not disappoint!! Man, that food was good!!! I can't believe I gave up my RFC!!!

Have a great time!!!

Stayed there 3 times in the last 2 years and loved it!

Great choice, we loved it! We stayed 11/07.
Pros:
1.beautiful grounds and rooms
2. great food court
3. large pool area-always found a seat
4. piano bar bob was SO entertaining for whole family
5. boat to DD very relaxing and fun
6. water sports/activities for whole family
7. campfire and pirate cruise for kids

Cons:
1. resort is big-fair amount of walking
2. buses were a little slow or crowded ***when we were there a CM was timing the buses and doing research because he said they knew improvements needed to be made***

Hope this helps.:thumbsup2

We are staying at POR in April and I am so relieved to read all the good things people have to say about the resort. Like the original poster I had read a few reviews that had me a bit worried. I know people who have stayed here and loved it but it has been a few years ago. I am glad to hear from a few recent visitors that things are fine.
THANK YOU!

We also stayed at POR in early December and LOVED it! It's a beautiful resort and grounds. I loved the quietness and the walk to the food court every morning. So pretty!! The boat ride to Downtown Disney is also very enjoyable. We had fabulous mousekeeping and a very clean and quiet room. You will love it there!!

:thumbsup2

We stayed there just a couple weeks ago and I will ditto everything said above. :)

We loved it!! :thumbsup2

I know it's been said again and again, but we've stayed at POR the last two trips and I can't tell you how pleased we are. We've never had a problem with it. I'll ditto the bus situation. It is trying at timees. We just learned to leave a few minutes earlier and be patient. But even with that little issue here and there, we are planning to go again in October of '09 and we wanted to try the Wildnerness Lodge, but didn't want to miss out on POR, so we're splitting our stay. I think you made an excellent choice.

My family spent 9 night at POR last August in 2 rooms.

We LOVED it! It is a beautiful resort. The pools were great, and we didn't happen to have any problem with the buses.
