Hi. Any Canadians with some fast and easy recipes? We are not really going to be roughing this weekend. But we will be in a trailer. We have a microwave. top burners(not sure on how to run oven yet) BBQ and of course the good old campfire.Any good recipes sites I could check? The back up- we will run into town for burger and fries:laughing:

We always make a pot of stew and chili before we go and re heat it on the campfire. It always tastes so yummy outside!

Hi. I don't really do a lot of camp recipes per se but I try to keep it simple. We are heading down on Friday for FW. First and foremost, I am from Southwest Ontario and I will just remind you not bring any meat or produce over the border. Make sure you are stopping on the way down to pick up a good part of your groceries. I am only packing staple foods and snack stuff for the kids. I will also bring milk and cheese. Raw eggs are questionable. Make sure that no canned items have beef in them. Chicken and fish are ok, but I would just be safe and not bring anything. Customs can really pull your camper or car apart and who wants to repack! It stinks because usually before camping, I make meatballs, I freeze a lot of stuff but really won't be able to this time. Our meals are going to be hamburgers, tacos, spaghetti and meatballs (all bought in the U.S.), bbq pork souvlaki to make gyro sandwiches, steak, pork chops, fish and chips ( I place an old pizza stone I have on the grill and heat it up and cook things like fish, chicken strips, pizza...things I would normally cook in an oven).
Hope this helps.:cool1:

OOOPsie sorry I didn't realize you were camping across the border! Great advice from rjan67!

We are campers. We rough it and have a nice permanent trailer.

* Hot dogs over the fire! YUM!

* Fresh breads and cold cuts, cheese, fruit! Great on hot days!

* Raisan bread toasted over the fire at night for a snack!

* Microwave rice, add veggies and your favourite sauce.

If you have a slow cooker, we LOVE pulled-pork sandwiches!

Hi again. Hey SandraC, thats the way we camp too. My inlaws have a permanent trailer down on lake Erie. I didn't think about taking our slow cooker for roast beef. Have to ask my family first, we just had a roast this week. We are though picking up a couple of steaks, I have not had steak in a loooong time.

Ok this may not sound tastie but we really enjoy it. You take a can of meat balls a can of chili a can of stew and a can of weiners and beans , mix it all together heat .Eat it with some buns . We call it camping stew. Another easy lunch is summer sausage with cheese ,pickles and crackers a great quick meal.

You may want to check the Camping Board here on the Dis. The have a thread with camping recipes.

Last night I made an easy dinner using the slow cooker and the microwave. I tossed two large chicken breasts in the slow cooker with smoky bbq sauce. Once that was cooked, I took two folks and pulled the chicken apart to make "pulled-chicken". I made rice in the microwave [see below], then tossed that in the slow cooker just to mix it all together. I microwaved baby carrot and asperagus and that was dinner. It was yummy!

Microwaved Rice: SO easy! No measuring needed. Simply pour instant rice into a microwave bowl, add enough water to cover all the rice, add a chunk of butter and nuke it for about 10 minutes.

One of my favourite campfire recipes is an easy dessert.

Take 2 oatmeal cookies without raisins(Crunchy ones work best).
Spoon some cherry pie filling between them.
Wrap them in tin foil.
Set them above hot coals for 3-5 minutes on each side.

So yummy!

One big fry pan or pot

Pound of ground beef - brown the meat - drain fat if desired

Add :
pkg of onion soup mix
Can of corn niblets
can of mushrooms

Cook til the corn and mushrooms are hot

Fast and only one pan to clean

I like the kraft web site. They are bound to have something there that will "get your fire going". I use it all the time and as a bonus it is canadian!
