dh and I have never golfed in our lives. We'd like to learn. But I don't want to spend alot of money before I know if we like it. Can we buy used clubs on ebay or something like that. I'm wondering if we did something like that we could get lessons from our local community center or something like that, or go out with friends who golf and have them show us the basics. We have a small community golf course which is not too expensive for residents. It's not a great course but i'm sure it would be find in the beginning. Any tips or ideas, we'd appreciate it. My dh is only 5'6" and I'm left handed. Is this going to effect the clubs we look for?

most courses have clubs you can rent. I would just go out with friends first and have them show you the ropes.

I would find a PGA teaching pro and take some lessons if you want to get started the right way. It is WAY too easy to pick up bad habits, especially with friends coaching you. There is a good chance that your local course offers lessons, if not, you can usually take them anywhere that does, even if you aren't a member there.

As for clubs, by all means buy them used until you are really set on golfing a lot. If you can't find any used, even a set from Walmart will be fine for several years. Often proshops at golf courses will have good used sets for sale so look there too.

It is a great game that anyone can play. We had a man at our old club that put his oxygen tank in the basket of his golf cart and off he went 3 times/week for 18 holes.
