Any GAD experiences for kids 5.5, not quite 6?

I have twins are aren't 6 yet, but they sure act like they are older.

I've seen lots of opportunities for kids age 6 and up. Is there anything out there that would allow people under 6?

These are from FAQ's on the actual site for the program...

Program Terms & Conditions

Receive free admission* to one of the theme parks of Walt Disney World® Resort or the Disneyland® Resort when you sign up and complete a day of volunteer service with a participating organization.

You must sign up for eligible volunteer opportunities for the “Give a Day. Get a Disney Day.” program through this site. Participation in volunteer activities outside of this sign-up process does not qualify for a free ticket.

Ticket quantities for this program are limited.

One ticket per person, regardless of the number or hours of volunteer service completed.

The program begins January 1, 2010 and continues until tickets are distributed or December 15, 2010, whichever occurs first.

Eligible volunteer opportunities are located in the United States, including Puerto Rico, or Canada only and you must have a residence in the United States, Puerto Rico or Canada to sign up.

You must be at least 18 years of age to sign up, and you may sign up a maximum of 8 additional members of your same household. Children must be at least 6 years of age to volunteer under this program and receive a theme park ticket. Children ages 6-17 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian when volunteering. Other age restrictions may apply to certain eligible volunteer opportunities.

So it looks as though 5 1/2 is too young to participate. Maybe you could sign up for a date when your child is 6.

If you are looking to just find a place that will allow your child to help without a voucher, sign up for what interests you and just ask them if your child can come with. Most places will NOT allow younger children because of the liability. Hope this helps.

The way I read it, seems like Disney set the age requirement for the program as a whole, not the individual organizations. If that's the case, I doubt there's any way around it. :(

Thank you for the quick responses! I have already applied and been accepted to volunteer with a local group and they will allow me to work from home to create cards for soldiers.

Thank you!

Disney has set a minimum age of six years old for registration for the program. Each individual organization may set a higher age requirement if they feel it is necessary , especially if health and/or safety of the volunteer is considered.

The vouchers can only be redeemed by the person named on the voucher. A government-issued photo ID is required except for anyone under age 18, when a copy of a birth certificate is acceptable if no government-issued photo ID.

If you try to redeem a voucher and the child is under Age six it violates the terms of the program and will not be allowed. And more than likely if the child was under six at the time the service was performed redemption also may not be allowed.

I signed up for the Project Linus for my family in early January, except for my DS who was not quite 6. When he turned 6 (Jan. 19) I was able to go in and add him to our volunteer list. He was able to help make our blankets and we turned them in Jan. 28th. Got our GAD vouchers yesterday and printed them off for all of us! So you may be able to sign up, depending on when your girls turn 6, and add them on at a later date.
