Any "free" shade at the waterparks?

Planning one day at a waterpark while we are there in August. I know you can rent a cabana or an area with umbrellas and chairs, but are there any areas where you might get shade without a special arrangement. Just thinking that we might need to get out of the sun for a bit. We probably will get to the park at opening. Thanks for any info you might have. Grammy:)

There were some shady areas due to vegetation when I have been there. Just plan ahead as the shade moves as the earth spins and as you might expect, the shady areas can be prime real estate so become occupied early.

There is tons of shade at the waterparks. Especially if you get there early, you will have no trouble finding chairs under trees/umbrellas or pavillions. Head to the back of each park for even better choices.

Google search best place to sit at typhoon or blizzard (which ever one your gong to)... I forget the website but there is a blog and they have pictures on a map circled and took pictures of what the different areas look like. We used that and now have favorite spots at each. We never pay for shade. There are lots of free spots.

I bring my own umbrella. :) Then it doesn't matter when I get there.

However there are a LOT of shelters that you don't have to pay for at each water park.

Get there early and you can pick out a great shady spot as your home for the day.

We love TL and can spend hours at the surf pool. We get there 1st thing and get a shady spot by the surf pool.

So then what is the advantage of paying to rent an umbrella area? Is it just that you don't have to get there early to secure the spot?

Yes, that is one of them. They are reserved so there is no having to watch over your spot for poaching. Yes, I've seen people do it.

You also get a free locker for your stuff, 4 towels, 2 beach chairs, 2 lounges, an umbrella and a small table.

It isn't as congested an area, there is enough room so at least 3 chairs are in the shade at all times.

I spend the whole time at the water parks reading as that is what I love to do on my time off. The DH and the DD's are out and about.

If you don't spend a lot of time in your chair, don't mind the sun and don't mind getting there early for a shady spot I can see they wouldn't be much value. Not everyone is going to "tour" the park from a chair. :beach:

Sounds cool, thanks.

Do they also have food/drink service (i.e. wandering waiters/waitresses)? Or can you just bring food from a nearby CS restaurant?

Thanks so much for the info! I knew I could count on the dis folks for the best tips. No sense to spend unnecessarily. We will get there early. I am very prone to sunburn so need to do all I can to be careful! Grammy

No, but they should!

There ARE shady spots to be sure. But you do have to be there at opening and know where you are going.

Also, be aware of where the shade is going to move and grab a chair in that direction. I know, I know, 6 chairs for 3 people but we just keep moving left, but at BB there is an area by the ski patrol that has great coverage, a little cabana thing.
