Hello,
i am really thinking about looking in to our local police program and becoming a cop. Im a little bit nervous but i just wanted to ask other experiences.

GO FOR IT!!! Im a criminal justice student now going to be a cop. Its fun. Im not by any means a tough girl and Im a but wussy but im doing great and close to graduation.

I am not a cop, but I have worked with cops closely for almost 2 years in the Explorer program and may yet become one myself. I can tell you, it will be a tough life, even tougher for females, but if you want it, go for it. It will be worth it. :) It's a thankless job, but when it comes down to it, you're saving people's lives every day, whether it be by pulling over a speeding car or helping keep prisoners contained or finding out who committed a crime to get them off the streets. And that... well, that is reward in itself. :)

Good luck to you.

There are about 50 police officers in my county, only one of whom is female. She's our first and only female on any of our departments. I think she's the toughest one of all, because she has to be. If she weren't, she would be stereotyped as the "girl cop." This is not to say that she's really butch, because she's not. She's attractive, (and down right gorgeous when she does her makeup and hair. Usually on the job, she wears her hair up, and wears less makeup.)

I've been on the range with her, and she's a great shot. Before officers can carry a taser, they have to take the ride, which means they have to get tased. She took it longer than the guys. She knew she couldn't wimp out, or they would tease her about it. She was promoted to Sargeant not too long ago, and she deserved it. She's good.

If I had to pick an officer to have with me, she'd be on the list.

My 18 year old DD is considering law enforcement, and I'm arranging for her to do a ride along with this woman so she can see what it means to be an officer, and to decide if she's really interested.

As for me, I'm in law enforcement, but I get them after they've been arrested. I'm a probation officer.

what indigo says is SO true. I get razzed from the guys in my class all the time because im not quite at there level. Be prepaired to have to work harder than all the guys, but remember its worth it.

thanks for all the input!

I am a cop, but in the UK and it is a whole different ball game here as we are not routinely armed! I would say about 50% of cops are female here now in the student phase and of those with a few years in it must be about 30%.

Good luck if you want to be a cop :)

Claire ;)

Go for it!! I am a retired Sergeant and would do it all over again!! You will see good and bad but it is a career worth taking if you really want to make a difference!!:cool2:
