I'm sure there are other threads on this, but wondering if a few of you could share your opinions - I want to see it and I've heard mostly good things, with one exception (but I will consider that source). DS's 7 and 10? I'm sure DD will like it. Thanks friends!:thumbsup2

It is a beautifully animated and well flowing story. The storyline is not too predictable to be boring but not too unpredictable to lose you. I just loved the setting of New Orleans and the beautiful scenes in the film.
My 9 year old loved it, and the humor in the film is top notch...we actually laughed out loud together at many of the scenes.
I am surprised, however, that it got a "G" rating. The evil villain is a VooDoo "Shadowman" dabbling with "the other side" and his conjuring of visible evil spirits I thought went a little far for children who may not understand the difference between what they see in a theater and reality. A more refined rating for me would be Y-7, although I know that that rating isn't available for film, only TV.
We saw it on a mother/daughter outing, so I didn't take my ds6, but I think he would have enjoyed it also. I will wait for the DVD for my younger dd to see it, when I am able to skip scary parts.
Overall, though, we give two thumbs up.:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

I too was suprised with the G rating, some of the scenes could be potentially scary for younger children.

Having said that, my dd6 and I went last night for a mother/daughter date and it was AMAZING!!!! DD was dancing in her seat and clapping, I had the songs going through my head in my sleep last night (we went right after the movie to buy the soundtrack but it was $20 at FYE so I'm holding out for a deal :rotfl:)

All in all, it was one of the best Disney movies I have ever seen and we would see it again in a heartbeat!!

From the mouth of my DD6: "It's a 10! It's adventerous and funny. It's a classic"

I can't say I was too surprised by the scarier scenes in a Disney movie rated G. Think about the scenes from Snow White when she is running through the forest. Or the dragon in Sleeping Beauty. DD6 was scared by the scenes with Dr. Facilier, but still loves the movie and has now seen it 3 times. She conned me into a second time during the week I was off work for Christmas, and then talked grandpa into taking her this week.

I loved it too. The animation is beautiful. The music is great. Overall, it's a wonderful movie.

I picked up the soundtrack at Toys R Us before Christmas. It was $15.99 there, but they were having a Buy 1, Get 1 50% off sale on CDs. We were at TRU to get a birthday present for one of DD's friends. I got 2 copies of the CD. One for the birthday present and one for Santa to put in DD's stocking. Luckily, she didn't catch on that I had two CDs in my hand.

We went to see it yesterday. All in all it is a really good movie with beautiful animation. The only thing I didn't like about it was all the voodoo stuff. It was pretty strong thoughout the whole movie. It didn't scare either of my kids but my 10 year old said she really didn't like that part of the movie. But with that said we all loved it and plan to buy it when it comes out on DVD.

Our entire family enjoyed this movie, including DS9 & DD6. Beautiful animation!! I guess the voodoo stuff/Facilier didn't bother us too much - it's Disney, there has to be a villain/antagonist! Actually, it led to a family discussion about that time period and the culture & beliefs in New Orleans.

My mom and I took my dd (4) 2 of my nieces (7 and 9) the weekend it first opened. They all loved it. I did wonder if the voo doo parts would be to scary for my dd but she was fine. She has seen it twice. Her nana (DH grandmother) took her to see it the Wednesday after we saw it on her request. She's been begging to go see it again.

My entire family - Me, DH33, DD14, DD6- really enjoyed it! We had my six year olds bday party there; her friends really seemed to like the movie too.

thanks everyone, I love the feedback. The voodoo stuff was the only part that I had heard was a little 'iffy', but I agree that it can open up a discussion about our beliefs regarding that and the history that it involves in New Orleans. Happy New Year fellow Disers!

my son is 6 months old and so i had DH watch him so i could go see it by myself! haha. i needed my disney fix! i thought it was very good! there were a few things i wasn't crazy about but really overall it was great (wasn't crazy about ray playing the stereotypical cajun toothless hick. that being said i think he was my favorite character:lovestruc). the other complaint (i guess) is that the music wasn't as good as the other disney movies. nothing stuck in my head. there wasn't that one song that just keeps playing in your head all day. little mermaid, beauty and the beast, lion king, etc etc...they all had GREAT music. i forget the guy's name who did alot of that music but he was great.

that all sounds a little debbie-downerish. i still loved it! and i can't wait to see it on DVD!

My dd bought the soundtrack at Walmart for $13.88.

We (Me, DD19, DD11 and DD2) saw it yesterday for my birthday. We all loved it, although I thought some of the "voodoo" scenes would be a bit scary for some kids.

I really loved the Princess and the Frog. Tiana is a wonderful role model princess for young girls. Most of the princesses are kind of hapless and rely on others to solve thier problems (the prince in most cases)- with the exception of Belle. Tiana values hard work, dreams, determination and ethics. Really good message, great story, animation, characters and music. My 4 year old DD really enjoyed it and gave it a 10 :D

I disagree. Randy Newman was the composer for Princess and the Frog. He of course is responsible for the Toy Story movies, Monsters Inc, and Cars, among many other movies. I love his style and find myself with "Down in New Orleans" and "Dig a Little Deeper" in my head often since I first saw the movie. But I know not everyone likes Randy Newman's music.

Dh and I went to check it out before letting DD see it. I liked it but think there are some scary parts to it. DD insists on us taking her to it. She said she will just close her eyes in the scary parts!!

We thought it was great! Even DH loved it! My 3 year old DD wasn't scared by it at all. She loved it and now ranks Tiana right up there with Cinderella as her favorite Princess. As far as the voodoo, I don't see how it it is any different than the witches conjuring things up in other Disney movies. It certainly isn't nearly as scary as Maleficent in Sleeping Beauty! I don't think it is as scary as the Lion King either. (I was way more bothered by some of the stuff in Hercules, than I am by anything in the Princess and the Frog. Not for me personally, but for having to try to explain it to a kid who I think still believes that these characters are real). There is a sad part and that did bother DD a bit- DH even looked at me and whispered "Did they really just do that?" I wouldn't let that stop me from going though. DD was standing up dancing in parts of the movie. I'd highly recommend it.

We took DD6 and DD4 to see it the day it opened. They (Ok, me too) had been waiting for it since they first saw the trailer for it about 4 months ago! I thought is was great! My girls are still quoting it. DD6 came out of the kitchen this morning and yelled, "I MADE GUMBO!". The funny thing is that I don't think she knows what gumbo is:rotfl2:. Then, DD4 keeps running around the house now saying, in the best southern accent that a 4 year old from Michigan can pull off, "Daddy, Daddy, have you seen my dray-ess?".

Oh, and I am not guiltless in the movie-quoting. I work as a paramedic and I have said, "It's not slime, it's mucus" on more than one occasion after seeing this movie! Unfortunately, those who haven't seen it (most of my co-workers :sad2:) think I am nuts:upsidedow, which is a pretty good assumption:laughing:.

We thoroughly enjoyed it also, although my 4yr old DS was scared at bedtime of the shadows that came out and grabbed people.

:rotfl: So my daughter isn't the only one suddenly interested in gumbo?

This movie has had an extremely positive impact on DD's eating. She is an extremely picky eater, and I've never been able to get her to eat soup. But after seeing the movie, she wanted to make gumbo. Unfortunately, we are in the middle of a major kitchen remodel and when she first asked, we didn't even have a stove. I let her cut up a carrot and onion with a child-safe knife. We cooked it in the microwave and added it to canned chicken noodle soup to pretend it was gumbo. Now she is always asking to eat soup, with vegetables! Gotta love that. I also took her to a cajun restaurant for real gumbo. I could tell it was too spicy for her but she didn't want to admit she didn't like it. I've promised that as soon as our kitchen is back in working order, we will make gumbo and I won't add as many spices.

I LOVED the music.:lovestruc I thought it was perfect and a great representation of true New Orleans music. As far as the voodoo, that's also New Orleans history and very interesting really.
