I believe that all the suites (to accomidate 6 people) between all three hotels are more money per night than 2 standard rooms. Not 100% sure though.

If you want to stay in a 2 bedroom Portofino Suite, it will accommodate more than 6, but technically, you are booking 2 rooms. Maybe if you get the Portofino Suite w/ 2 queen beds instead of a king, you can fit 6...IF you can do that?

I haven't stayed in suites in the other 2 hotels...sorry.

We are also a party of 6 and were told that 5 was the max in a room. If anyone else knows anything else different let me know.

There are no family suites that sleep more than five.

If you want to save some money but still get the onsite conveniences (this is inconvenient in itself though), stay onsite every second night. You can all privileges for check in day and check out day. You'll just be moving every day which is a real pain in the butt.

We initially had a one bedroom suite where the bedroom had 2 queen beds and the parlor had a fold-out couch, to accomodate 6 people. Unfortunately, my sister and her husband had to cancel. Fortunately, PBH worked with us by just canceling the parlor room and keeping the 2 bed room. The price of the one bedroom suite was comparable to the price of 2 seperate rooms, but we knew that 6 of us would be together in the suite.

I had this whole reply going on because i was confused...but when i reread your post, I think I understand.

You booked a Portofino Suite and then didn't need the parlor (pullout couch room) and cancelled just that...right? And what you're staying is the price was about the same? If so, that's because they don't 'charge' you for the parlor part (even tho it's a different room and room number)...that is what makes the 'suite' a suite...that pullout couch section.

So...it appear to me, unless I'm not seeing this right, that they canceled the parlor that you should still have had because it was a Portofino Suite.

am i in the ballpark? :confused3

Yes, that is correct. It was the parlor room that was cancelled.

However, we did save money with the cancellation because the parlor room is priced as a seperate room. So the 1 bedroom suite (consisting of the parlor room and 1 bedroom) is about the price of 2 rooms, while the 2 bedroom suite is about the price of 3 rooms. If we had been at Platinum level with YouFirst, we would have had the suite at the price of just 1 standard room. Unfortunately, we're just Gold.

That doesn't make sense they CHARGE for it...it's a pullout for cryin out loud. And...you can't book it by itself. It's either w/ a regular bedroom or nobody's in it.

See...we always get it as an upgrade, so we pay a standard room cost...maybe that's where my confusion was? :confused3

It actually gets booked as 2 rooms and we receive 2 confirmations, one for each room.

I believe that the first reservation (the bedroom) has a higher price because it's booked for 4 adults, while the parlor is booked at only 2 adults.

Looking through me emails, I see that I was able to save a little bit more with the APH pass:

Bedroom:
Room Rate $279.00
Rate Description Annual Passholder Special. Must present valid Preferred Annual Pass upon check-in. Not combinable with other discounts or offers.

Parlor:
Room Rate $189.00
Rate Description Annual Passholder Special. Must present valid Preferred Annual Pass upon check-in. Not combinable with other discounts or offers.

And so when my sister and her husband cancelled, the parlor room was cancelled ($189/night) and we just had the 2 bed room ($279/night).

We get the 2 reservation confirmations too...just like you did. And it says 1/2 and 2/2...when we booked the 2 queen bedroom on the other side of the parlor (for the 2 bedroom suite), our res even said 3/3.

I wonder if it was more $$ because it was 4 adults...extra $ per adult that took the price higher?

I guess I'm having a hard time grasping "booking" the parlor...since it seems the "Portofino Suite" is that parlor w/ a bedroom attached. Like I said, you can't book the parlor by itself....(altho, technically you could since it still has everything you'd need...bed, bath, tv, etc...) :confused3

The booking was for the "Portofino Suite", but you can see how the price was broken out. If I had kept it at a "Portofino Suite" with 4 adults, the rate probably would have been $398/night APH ($189 per room) as we technically would have had only 2 adults in a room (2 in the parlor and 2 in the bedroom).

And yes, that addition fee for each adult above 2 in a room (~$40 each) quickly bumps up the rate.

I probably should have used the term priced instead of booked, because it was one booking with 2 prices (1 for the parlor and 1 for the bedroom).

We are a family of 6 but 1 is under 3. Can we still get 1 room. For some reason I'm having a heck of a time finding an answer without calling.

Here is the scoop. There is a max of 5 in the room per fire regulations. They give each occupant a room key and that is used as your "unlimited express" access identification. Each person needs to show this key to get into the express line on the rides. If you try to sneak 6 people in, one person will be without a key and will be in violation of the fire codes. I guess the rest is up to you!

Do they check ID for Express line ??? Just asking as a horrible rule defying thought entered my head !!!!!

Do you mean, do they check your room key? Yes..they will look at it. They will be checking the dates on it are valid, and usually if the key is associated with the person using it (ie: male/female and/or adult/child)

There is no way for them to know the difference between Judy Smith and Jane Smith if they are both adults...so, to check actual ID (like drivers licenses), no..they don't check that. They are making sure the dates are valid mostly....

Well I don't want to sneak anyone in. My question was do they allow 5 plus one under three like the other place does;)

Does Disney really allow six people in a room?

To the best of my knowledge, the answer is no at Universal. I've never heard of anyone being allowed to have six in a normal room.

Yes, were staying at Port Orleans Riverside with the six of us.:scared1:

Thanks for the info. I'll plan on 2 rooms then unless they tell me different on the phone.

I wonder why the fire regulations are different at the different hotels? It would be interesting to know.
