If you get a B boarding pass, what is the availability on the plane at that point? I really want my two seats next to each other by a window for my husband and one son and me and the other son. What are the odds I'll get this with a B?? I was hoping to save the $80 if at all possible.

What seats will be left will depend upon a variety of factors, inluding how many Business Select passengers there are, how many people pre-board, how many families board between the A and B groups, and whether you have a high or low B number. Generally speaking, I'd say you'd be very likely to get a window and a center seat, as most people seem to prefer aisle seats. However, they will probably be towards the back of the plane, as people tend to grab the first seat they see that they like. HTH

Here are some facts:

137 seats on a typical SW plane.
46 Aisle seats
45 Window seats
46 Centers

The A group contains between 45 and 60 people depending on business and A listers. Family boarding goes after A - for the sake of argument lets say 10 people.

That means that the first B would be the 70th person to board the plane. family groups tend to sit together, singles who board early will always pick aisle or windows.

I have actually printed off some seating diagrams at seatguru for southwest and done some playing around. I figure that statisticall our family of three will still be able to get a set of three seats together well into the B30's. It may be near the back, but I don't get too worried.

As long as you don't mind that the two sets of two are not adjoining I wouldn't worry too much about B. I would make sure I checked in at the 24 hour mark though.

I really appreciate your replies!! I think I may risk not getting the early bird check in and just check in 24 hours before. If I check in via Iphone 24 hours prior, can I have the passes printed at guest services whenever I want after that??

Yes you can just have Guest Services print your boarding pass after you check in. But you can also just print your boarding passes at the airport as well. We always just have the skycap do it at the curbside luggage check in. You will retain the Boarding number that you get when you check in via your phone
