Any experience with May traveling?

We are thinking of booking a trip for May 9th-13th. We have friends flying in from New York and they would be flying out on the 13th so Mother's Day in the park wouldn't be an issue. I am really concerned about making this a wonderful trip for them. I raved about our Disneyland trips so much that they booked Disneyworld for over the Thanksgiving holiday and had the worlds worst trip. Lines were super long and the entire time there they only got on two rides:mad: plus they ended up with food poisoning.

I am hoping that this week in May won't be too awful with crowds but I did notice when pricing the trip that a lot of hotels are already pretty booked up and prices at the Disneyland hotel are 221 a night even with out AP discount. We booked a last minute room at DLH in December and got an AP rate of 168 so I was thinking maybe the rates were higher because it was so much busier.

Thanks for any advice on this. I just want to make sure they experience a great trip and not a repeat of WDW.

It shouldn't be too bad although Mother's Day weekend is usually pretty busy in general, even the Friday and Saturday beforehand. BUt if you go with the right attitude you will be fine. On the plus side, you should have pretty decent weather. Both of our previous May trips were very nice.

About the rates, you got a decent one probably because it was last minute. I seem to find that the further out I book the Resort Hotels, the higher the price.

Thank you for letting me know that. My friend is a teacher and this is the only time she can take an extended weekend.

I'm also considering this weekend for my 40th bday celebration! I'd probably only go to the parks two days because we'll be in WDW parks for 6 days in just two weeks. :dance3: But I'd like to meet some friends and have Delta Dollars to spend. Never been to DLR and don't plan to take the kids since they will have just gone to WDW and won't care about meeting my friends, haha. Is Mother's Day a day to avoid in the parks and if so then what else is in the area to explore. Maybe just a beach day then, hmm?

On the flip side, two of the friends have b-days Mem. day weekend or the week after. Would I be better off waiting to go on their bdays? Will it matter if I say I'm celebrating my bday if it's 2 weeks past? Does it really matter for adults anyway? Would you say Mem. Day weekend is equal, better or worse crowd wise? TIA

We hit the park in 'late' May of 05.(just before Memorial day) Of course everything was up and running for the 50th. No problems though, crowds were ok.
Have fun.:cool1:

It does not matter if you wait two weeks, you can still celebrate your birthday right along with theirs. How fun!

I would personally say that Memorial Day weekend is worse crowd wise as a whole weekend, but Mother's Day is pretty bad. You said one friend had a birthday the week after, would you be able to go the week after Memorial Day? I think that would be my pick. Otherwise, go with your friends any of those weekends, enjoy yourselves, celebrate those birthdays and you will have fun no matter what!!!

The mid-week portion of your trip should be pretty slow. We've been mid May and have had no trouble with crowds. Memorial Day is another story!!! I have heard that Mother's Day weekend is busy. What a treat though. I would love to be taken to DL for Mother's Day. Someone call dh!!!

We were at DLR for Mother's Day this past May, the crowds were not too bad, most rides were about 30 minute wait times. All mothers received a carnation when we came in the park. This was my first trip in 25 years and my kids and husbands first trip, and we had a blast. Neither ds or dh are big crowd people and both survived quite well....I think I have talked them going back in October:banana:

You know what's so funny is that Father's Day is always really crowded, atleast it was in the 90's! We "took" my Dad once for Father's Day and talked to a lot of folks and you wouldn't believe how many kids are so sweet and generous like us and "take" their Dads to DL for the day!

Now mom's are usually a different story as I would love that "gift" too!
