Any experience connecting through DCA?

Hi,
My family of 5 is going BOS-MCO connecting through DCA on Delta this February. The airport looks small from what I can tell on their website, so I expect the arrival and departure gates shouldn't be too far apart.
For anyone who travels through DCA, how is it?
I'm not thrilled about having a connection in the winter, but am hoping DCA is far enough south that it won't be a problem (as long as they don't have a winter like last year).
I also don't love Delta, but got a great rate that was at least half the Jet Blue fare, so we'll keep our fingers crossed.
Any advice/experiences/tips you can share are appreciated. :)

Reagan is a decent-sized airport overall, but each of the four terminals is self contained and the one where Delta's gates are is fairly small. It should be very easy to change flights there. DCA doesn't get much snow, but it doesn't necessarily handle it very well when it does. It's also smack in the middle of the very crowded East Coast corridor and can get hit with a domino effect if things start going bad in NY and elsewhere in the region. I wouldn't say it's any more or less of a risk than any other airport, however.

Pleasant airport. As long as they don't get hit directly with snow (or worse, ice) you should be fine---I agree that the risk is probably no more than any other mid-atlantic airport in the winter.

Delta operates out of the South Pier at DCA which is small. There cant be more than 10 gates. It should be very easy to connect there.

I would say DCA handles winter weather pretty well, but Delta does not. On December 16th we got a small snow "storm". We got between 1-2" throughout the region. DCA/IAD/BWI all stayed open but Delta canceled a bunch of flights. I don't think any other airline had as many cancellations as Delta. Not sure why though.

Could be because the planes were coming from (or going to) someplace with worse conditions. As often as not, cancellations are due to something somewhere *else* in the system, not where you are.

I think ATL was fine. I think DL canceled flights just in case the storm was worse because they didn't want to have aircraft stuck up here.
