I placed an order (buy it now) yesterday for some adult diapers for my disabled DD. I got a confirmation email saying that the order went through. A few minutes later, I got an email from Ebay saying that the seller had canceled the order because the buyer(me) placed the order in error. The seller also sent me an email asking if I canceled the order which I did not. She said that she didn't request it to be canceled either.

She said to reorder so I did that today.

Again, I got an email confirming the second transaction. I waited a few minutes to pay for it just to be sure that there weren't any problems. Sure enough, I got 4 emails from Ebay that have invoices. The first one is for yesterdays ordered that was canceled plus today's order. The second one is for just today's order. The third and fourth are each for today's order but the shipping is about twice what it should be.

I tried contacting the seller but no response yet. I tried calling ebay but got the recording saying to contact them via live chat which I did. The chat person was less than helpful. They told me how to get the seller's phone number and that I needed to call the seller because they(ebay) thinks that it's a scam. Well, if it's a scam, why would I want the seller to have my phone number?!

The seller is not new to Ebay. They have over 900 transactions with a 99.6% rating.

Can the seller leave me negative feedback for this mess?

I really need the diapers for my DD so I don't really want to walk away but by the same token, I don't want to be scammed either.

Any advice on what I should do next?

This is strange... I do believe it is a scam so be careful.

The seller may not have anything to do with this. Do NOT respond to the invoices, have the seller send you ONE invoice from her PayPal account directly to you with the price you paid from the posted ad.

She should understand the mess and have no need to respond negatively to you. This is definitely not your fault and you have proof of that. Besides, sellers CANNOT give neg feedback to buyers anymore.

The phone number thing confuses me. Why don't you want to call her? You might get the info you need from her if you talk to her personally.

Thanks for the info.

I don't want to call her because in order to get her phone number, I have to go through ebay. I did a "live chat" with ebay and this is what they said...Your trading partner's contact information will be sent to you via email. When you request for this information, your trading partner will also receive an email with your contact information.

I'm not sure that I want them to have my contact information. If I use a phone number that the seller gives me via email, I won't really know if it's really the seller or part of the scam.

Maybe I should just walk away from the purchase and get them somewhere else. The price is the only thing that's pulling me back to the ebay listing.

:confused3

Oh, so I see now, I don't blame you for not wanting to give away your contact info.

I would back out also. Too many strange things, too many variables. Good luck!
